Hi Prsr fuel pump fail

40,000 miles. Catastrophic fuel pump failure without warning. Left me on the side of a very dark road, at night, in the woods, with limited cell access.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Was that diagnostic given by the dealer? Can you provide more information for everybody's benefit... like if you experience the crickets anytime during these 40,000 miles?

Better questions would be:
how did it fail? Stopped pumping? Exploded?
Type of fuel ran? E85? 93? 91? 89?
Mods to car?

Right now I could say, well he put jet fuel in it for extra ponies, which caused the hpfp to try and go to the moon but nasa wouldn't clear it for space travel so it exploded under the stressful physical

HPFP's have had lots of issues in gas cars in general (look at BMW). They are VERY sensitive to fuel contamination, and who here does any testing on their fuel before filling up? I'm guessing none since it's not really possible to do. So the truth is you'll never know if there is an issue until something goes wrong, and if the gas in the tank test bad you are going to foot the bill for the repairs. My recommendation for these cars is to use only one reputable gas station and save all receipts.

So what if he did? That's not going to tell you anything, since it's a normal sound. It's like seeing a guy drop dead, and you say, "Did he talk at any point in his life?"

Same reason a Doctor asks for a detailed patient history - more information makes a more informed diagnosis.

All of that is relevant, especially in a car model with little to no service history.

He has a point though. Crickets are a known "side effect" of any hpfp. Wouldn't help diagnose anything just knowing that he heard him. Now if he said "my crickets were very quiet but that night it sounded like the bait shop just opened". Might be worth investigating.

Patient: "Doctor, my liver exploded!"

Doctor: "Hmm. Have you ever taken a shower?"

Useless information.

Suppose the OP did have crickets. What will your "diagnosis" be, doctor?

Rumors confirmed:

Crickets attempted to kill driver, crickets failed and destroyed car instead

Recommend going to dealers and filing warranty claims

Lizard heard crickets. Tried to get to them. Destroyed fuel pump in process!
