It might be less limited but reasponable people don't buy lesser performing uglier versions when you can get better brand new......its also not even named/badged an M1, its the 1 series M Coupe, naming conventions actually matter to BMW enthusiasts and thats "less pure" as dumb as it sounds.

You are right and wrong at the same time. Many collectors and enthusiasts will still go for a 1M because of the rarity and the mishmash of parts that made the car awesome. Many people will also just want the latest and greatest and plump for a M2.

Only way for 86 platform to hold it's used value is to be discontinued. For now it will depreciate as any other car in mass production. If you look at Z4M and 1M cars... they hold their value used. The 1M appreciated because of limited production.


Off topic humor (but real):

I emailed a dealer asking about a used 2014 Tacoma regular cab and wanted to charge me same or more than a new 2014 regular cab Tacoma. He told me it is a rare truck because it's discontinued
