Technically, doesn't the 918 beat it in that regard?

(depending on if you count 918 units as "production", of course...)

chrisl, the 918's engine isn't turbocharged.

True, but it's a hot v (exhaust straight out the inside of the V) with a dry sump.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was most certainly referring to it being first turbocharged hot V with dry sump.

Looks fantastic! Maybe I can afford one in 5-6 years when they've depreciated a bit, lol.

Dreaming big and assuming we'd all have $125K-$150K to budget for either an upmarket 911 or AMG GTS, which would you choose?

I've owned both brands and have more of an emotional attachment to 911's but also appreciate the stability of a front engine design.

Tough call, I'd have to drive both first, but would lean toward a GT3.

I'd take a GT3 over this any day. I do like this, but the ultimate naturally aspirated 911 is hard to beat.

Hot Mercedes-AMG GT "R" confirmed for summer reveal with active aero

Hot Mercedes-AMG GT confirmed for summer reveal with active aero

The wait is almost over as Mercedes-AMG has announced the hotter GT will be introduced this summer.

The reveal was made by none other than Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers in an interview with Car & Driver at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show. Before you get your hopes up too high, Moers was quick to point out it won’t be a Black Series model or something along the lines of that. It will come with active aerodynamics that will provide “markedly improved performance.”

The model will likely be labeled “Mercedes-AMG GT R” and is expected to use an upgraded version of the biturbo 4.0-liter V8 with around 550 horsepower. It’s not known at this point whether a weight loss is on the agenda, but chances are the 800 engineers working at AMG put the car on a strict weight watchers plan.

When asked about the prospects of electric propulsion, Moers said the work put into the SLS Electric Drive will not go to waste as it will be put to good use in the future. He is also fond of a mid-engined model, but it’s not on the agenda for the foreseeable feature since Mercedes-AMG simply doesn’t have the manufacturing capacity to back it up.

Posaidon Tuning Shows Off 700 PS Merc-AMG GT RS [w/Video]

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmOoomy33Fw[/ame]

Quote:
While the Mercedes-AMG GT was never going to be a "hit or miss" type of car, fans of the brand are still expecting more powerful versions than the current 510 PS AMG GT S model.

Before that happens, it's tuning companies like Posaidon who come to the rescue of AMG GT owners in search of a bigger thrill when flooring the throttle. As quick as the current AMG GT S is, hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, it's no match for the Posaidon GT RS 700, which is good for, you've guessed it, 700 PS as well as 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.

While the tuning company though about raising the peak torque figure way beyond 750 Nm, they ultimately concluded that they should stick to the factory recommended torque limit for the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed dual clutch transmission - though the electronic torque limitation can be lifted per customer request.

In terms of flat out acceleration, the GT RS 700 will hit the 100 km/h mark in 3.2 seconds, before maxing out at a stupendous 349 km/h (216 mph) - way more impressive than the standard car's 310 km/h (192 mph) top speed, wouldn't you say?

In order to push the AMG GT to such speeds, Posaidon applied their in-house turbocharger upgrade and increased the intercooler capacity. They also connected a bespoke exhaust system with free-flow motorsport grade catalytic converters to said turbochargers.

Furthermore, engine and gearbox ECU mapping was also a priority, resulting in 750 Nm (limited) delivered smoothly across the entire engine speed range - while horsepower rises progressively as the car revs higher and higher.

Posaidon will also offer customers the possibility of having the car's standard start-stop technology permanently deactivated, as well as a radar speed trap warning system integrated directly into the factory COMAND Online sat-nav system.

Prior Design Provides Mercedes-AMG GT S With Wide-Body Kit

Quote:
Those of us who thought that the Mercedes-AMG GT wasn't aggressive enough visually, can finally rest at ease, thanks to Prior-Design.

Let's get something straight off the bat; there's nothing wrong with the Mercedes-AMG GT. It's got great looks, and great performance. Not to mention that gorgeous interior which everyone seems to rave about.

But if we were to nitpick, we could argue that it has a few docile angles, which make it seem less threatening than some of its direct rivals. Luckily, wide-body kits often help out in such situations.

Prior-Design definitely know their stuff when it comes to making your car look like it's ready to punch somebody in the face and take their lunch money. Their PD800 GT Wide-body aerodynamic kit for the AMG GT S consists of a front add-on spoiler, rear diffuser, side-skirts add-on spoiler, custom bonnet, front & rear widenings, rear trunk spoiler and custom canards plus air intake panels.

Maybe some of you would disagree, but those who love wide-body kits, should like this car right here. Besides, this is as subtle as wide-body kits get. The AMG GT S doesn't look at all like it's trying too hard to stand out.

The people at Prior-Design will also give your car a custom interior on request, as well as a custom exhaust system.

As for the wheels on this car, they're called PD3Forged Superlight and they've got a really modern design which does compliment the AMG GT.
