Little bit of thread Resurrection, but yes, using the tow hook mount is the way to go. You're legal, its a one-time purchase (just avoid automated car washes), and easily reverted if the plate requirement eventually goes away (you would think they can sneak small amendments into budget bills that have nothing to do with money, so why not this? Come on legislators!)

I have the Perrin mount and I am very happy with it.

Also, similar purchase story. My saleswoman totally understood, and told me that if my front bumper was drilled, she would "drill whichever idiot installs it"

Don't you guys in Ohio have speed camera's that take a picture and send you a ticket in the mail?

Until those are outlawed in OH, you can bet the front plates aren't going anywhere.

Most take a picture of the rear of the car, so they can screw over people who live in states where just the rear plate is required.

As a side note, those may be outlawed before the end of the year, if the legislature bans them before the courts do.

I told the dealership when I ordered my BRZ that if they drilled the bumper for the front plate they were keeping the car. Never had a front plate on the BRZ or on several other cars I own, going back 8+ years now. Never gotten hassled for it. Even if I do get a ticket occasionally, it is worth it to me to run without front plates.

How much do No Front Plate tickets run where you are? In alot of cases, buying the tow-hook mount is cheaper than the ticket.

I don't have a front plate at all. When I purchased my car I almost forgot to let the dealer know NOT to drill the holes. I rushed to him and he pretty much said "I wouldn't have let you drill holes in this even if you wanted them". When I asked him about getting pulled over, he told me to tell the officer the same thing he has told them before: "Would you put a front plate on this car?" Apparently that works every time...

On that note, I have never been pulled over for my lack of a front plate.

But buying tow-hook front plate mounts or their no-drill equivalent for all five cars that I have without front plates currently, would cost a lot more than a couple of tickets, and IMO front plates just look bad on many cars, no matter where they are mounted. For now I'll take my chances until/unless I start getting multiple tickets a year for it.

Last time I heard of a friend getting a no front plate ticket around here, it was $80. The only time I've been stopped for not having a front plate mounted was 10 or 12 years ago, when I had it stuck between the dash and the windshield. The deputy Sheriff that pulled me over said it was a safety hazard and gave me a verbal warning, and then we chatted about the car for a bit (which was gutted and had a roll cage in it).

Here in SW OH, they had speed cameras in a few neighborhoods, but the good citizens raised such a stink that they got legislated into oblivion. Before that happened, I did get a speed ticket via camera shot, but it was a photo of my back plate as I was decelerating from a 55MPH to a 35MPH zone (and the bastards got me right at the 35 sign when I was only down to 39). In one neighborhood where they had a camera, they actually sent the ticket money back to the perpetrators...I was not that lucky).
