Oh wait, they're trying to sell that car? I was told that it had already been sold earlier this week, went and saw it yesterday and they've got it all optioned out.

If they're trying to sell that car, I wish them the best of luck with that as well. One of their salespeople is trying to hard sell me one I think, even though I clearly told him I'm not about to be able to buy one, I just want to see one and get a test drive to get a good impression of it for future reference.

Only if that tint is advertised on their website for that price. If not, they actually cut your allocation of vehicles for not following the Scion covenant. Before nobody cared because if they never got another xB or xD again I'd be fine. Now you'd get less FR-S too so they'll be more careful.

What struck me as odd, was that it was stock (no tint or anything) and on the sticker was the MSRP and some other $26,xxx number marked as Dealer Network Suggested Price or some such nonsense. THEN the ~$850 was added to that for the Bespoke.

I can understand if they put some fancy wheels, mudflaps, paint protection, gold tint, and a grenade launcher add-ons and charge $100,000. This was not the case.

I just feel like it breaks the Scion no haggle rule.

Even IF the FR-S was as rare and desirable as these morons are making it out to be, putting the asking price of it at $30k is shooting themselves in the foot. $30k flirts dangerously with too many other sports cars that people would consider first.

No way would you want to play over MSRP for a FR-S or BRZ! Its crazy people! Don't do it.

MSRP or less. They dealers are making money no matter what. Don't be giving your money away for nothing!

This is not a rare car, like the LFA or some ferrari...

I just called Toyota/Scion of Daytona to schedule a test drive and basically was told that if I wasn't interested in paying $7500 over sticker, a test drive would be impossible. I told them that I've been searching for one and been following the car for years and that they're the ONLY dealer in the COUNTRY that has an FR-S priced over $30k. He then put me on hold to "talk to the general manager," and came back simply stating that I would not be able to test drive the vehicle unless I was interested in paying $33k for it because that was the best price available.

I was up front with the guy and told him that I had absolutely zero interest in paying $33k for a $25k car, but that if I could come test drive it, that Scion of Daytona could, perhaps, earn my business in the future when they were selling them at a reasonable price. The sales associate again declined, saying if I wasn't interested in this specific car at that price, a test drive would be impossible. Unfortunately for them, due to this one event, even if they receive an FR-S that is exactly what I want at the price that I want, I have zero plans to ever go there.

What a joke.

Dealer in Johnson City TN wanted $28,455 for theirs. The car had no options and they couldn't explain the extra markup to me, all they could say is that it was there. Sucks for me because they were the only dealer with a Hot Lava anywhere around me.

Thanks for sharing this, I had some bad feelings about the place myself, this just kinda solidifies it. Thinking I'm going to just stop dealing with them altogether as well.

Only people that would be surprised about these markups are the ones that wanted to feel safe in their "Scion pure pricing" bubble. Pure pricing is fancy talk for no haggling and has nothing to do with MSRP. Markups are allowed even with zero added accessaries as long as it's clearly shown on the window sticker and on the dealer's website.

That said, there will be plenty of dealers selling at or below MSRP. You just have to look or wait a few months. Bottom line, DON'T play their game and pay markups. MSRP with a few worthy accessaries, sure, just DON'T buy one with the "market adjustment"
