Scion dealer markup. I have seen it.

I've been driving by the Scion dealership by my house every day for the last two weeks. Finally, my vigilance paid off and I caught an automatic to be sold today. Sticker had manufacturer's suggested retail price AND a dealer network suggested price. MSRP was 25 something, the other price was 26 something PLUS the Bespoke.

Salesman was real interested in if I had a trade in.

I got to sit in too, but beside the point.

Yep, it exists.

I called Toyota of Daytona (FL) today and they're selling a 6spd firestorm for a laughable $33k. I laughed and told them good luck with that. :)

After having a good laugh, I'll walk if any of the dealers around here try to pull that crap.

I can understand them trying to get extra money out of you by tacking on uneeded extras like the bespokes and trying to force it down your throat but can't they get in big trouble for marking the car itself up any. Are you sure these markups were for the car itself and not some add on?

What you have to do is take the dealer markup and subtract that amount from MSRP for your counter offer to break thier balls.

:lol::lol:
If I hear something ridiculous like $30k, this is exactly what's happening.

it was only a matter of time. I feel like the rest of this year is gonna be difficult for those without preorders seeking to purchase an FR-S or BRZ since the initial hype is incalculable.

Hahaha wow I never thought of that. The whole negotiation process turns me off, but this is comedy gold.

It's simple to get around the pure price restrictions. Add Tint and charge $3k for it, there's nothing Toyota/Scion can do about that.

I have done this. They just give you that deer in the headlights look.

Although I didn't do it with the FR-S (I was satifisfied to get it at MSRP) I also usually have a set dollar amount in mind that includes all taxes/title/junkfees and stick to it.

If they try to start saying things like "doc fees are non-negotiable, we have to charge them" o some such nonsense. I respond with "That's fine with me, you can call the breakdown whatever you want but I'm not paying any more than this amount".

If I'm honest, I broke a lot of my own rules with the FR-S, but that's because I really wanted this car. Normally, I would not buy a car if I could not get an out-the-door price of at or below MSRP.

Thats exactly what my local dealer did. Charge $4K for tints, nitro tires, a pinstripe, and under car coating.
