Except the manuals have sport mode too...

As stated, on the AT sport mode changes ALOT. So, no it's not useless

I find that it kicks in way too soon to be very useful in the dry. In the wet, I have had situations that it'll interrupt oversteer so violently that it'll cause a bit of a "tank slapper" in the opposite direction. I find that it's better to just have all the systems on in the wet to be safe, or all off if you want to fool around.

HOWEVER, i've found that sport mode is terrific in the winter in the snow. It allows a lot more oversteer in snow/ice than the rain (because it can't abruptly stop the pendulum momentum) but keeps you from going backwards in a spin.

Still though, all off 90% of the time is the way to go. The car is really easy and progressive.

All of this, love the sport mode on my AT, very useful in traffic and you need to move into the next lane as quickly as possible (only because I had to use this today). Hate it when actually sitting in one lane of traffic, jolts you all around. But still decent when I don't feeling like putting it into manual mode. As far as the VSC as far as I can tell it just allows a little extra play before TC kicks in. Typically for spirited driving on public roads I turn both sport and VSC on just to keep it safe

When I race Skyon TC Release Series 3.2 I often throw on sport mode for street cred.
I use my 3rd leg to hold the brake while I use gas and clutch to extract every pony from this high strung 2.0L. When I get out after another kill, I go to Starbucks and just look at the car for a bit and let everyone know I run in Sport mode.

Like someone else has stated the TC is too aggressive when on, 95% of the time i run with it off (pedal dance every time i get in, or at least full off) simply because i have more faith in my own acquired driving skills and knowledge than i do in a traction control system. this is the 1st RWD car that i've owned, that has traction control. my S2k was a 2004 and didn't have it.

on another note i think that Sport mode is a good thing for those who are just getting into their first RWD car, especially one as tail happy as this one, it allows you to push your own limits without really pushing the cars limits too far.

Sport mode is nice when it's rainy out. You can still kick out the ass end but it'll reel you back in before you end up sideways into a tree.

That's what I thought too... until I spun into a wall

Here's what it says in the owner's manual:
Your vehicle is equipped with two types of control modes to accommodate various driving preferences. The control modes can be selected with the “VSC SPORT” switch. Normal mode allows secure and smooth normal driving. When the switch is pressed, Vehicle stability control (VSC) SPORT mode is activated. Control characteristics such as the Vehicle stability control (VSC) and TRAC are adjusted to afford maneuverability closer to what a driver may have imagined, while a sense of security is retained.
I laughed when I read that. I'm not sure it could get much more vague than that, especially if the driver has never driven a RWD car and has no idea what he "may have imagined."

The sport mode in the AT makes the car hold gears longer and sharpens throttle response.

Does the sports mode in auto make the car slide sideways easier?

Yeah, I had a confused look on my face when I first read it. I actually reread it several times and had to stop and think about what I thought I "imagined."

Inspection Mode disables the aids as well as the auto LSD which is always on with VSC and TRAC off. ABS for pedal braking is still on in Inspection Mode but ABS to control LSD loading (off brake pedal) during cornering. Enjoy! This is also how the service manual states to do Dyno runs to get the true HP and other readings.
