I'd love to build one one as a weekend street car/track car if I could afford to. If weather is nice I'd drive it to work too. It's a miata that's gone on a near 1,000lb diet...what's not to like about that?!

Locost.

I have no garage (plus crapbdiscipline) otherwise I'd have one based on a VVT-i 1 or JZGTE Mk3 Supra donor. Maybe even a North-South SHO/Yamaha 3.4L V8.

Only issue I see with 2jz is the weight. After all the goal is lighweight. Boosa v8 would turn it into a f1 reving car which would be AWESOME lol.

Could probably do a JZ Locost at <1500lbs, plus Miata based ones have a significant rear weight bias. Could maybe even be ~49:51 F:R split with JZ, if not a little wheelbase stretch, and track width fixes it.

I had a 1JZ car and loved the short stroke responsive revving and noise...

I've got the British Locost book with the frame plans as well as Keith Tanner's Miata-based experience book. But that's as far as I went. Typical...

Don't get me wrong. It would be cool to check out a CBR600RR, but it's also much more dangerous and a totally different experience...

I rode CBR600RR. Not dangerous enough, 1199 Panigale maybe.

These are kinda cool but I would rather a Caterham/Lotus 7 or Ariel Atom myself personally.

Who wouldn't? The Excocet is a much cheaper car.

Honestly an Exocet with no engine mods whatsoever would be several barrels of fun at the track. You can add power, brakes, suspension, and everything else after adding oodles of seat time -- the stock parts will perform beautifully with 1000 fewer lbs to manage.

The Exocet retains the weight balance of the Miata, as well as the driving position at the center of the car. This makes it very easy to drive compared to Caterhams and Atoms, not to mention the price. And the 1500-lb weight makes it handle better than LSx swaps. For some people it's not about lapping in the fewest number of seconds, but with the greatest number of smiles. 86 owners should understand this quite well.
