I have the same thing on both pillars after my first winter - dealer has submitted the pictures to Toyota and waiting for the resolution.

Tried to prevent rust, may have made it worse...

I hope and am sure they will replace it!

They doesn't send anything to Toyota for me. They have only verified the rust on the pillar and placed an order to replace it without asking any questions.

Make sure they will apply some 3M on it BEFORE reinstalling them.

Toyota should fix it for sure, the dealer shouldn't need to get prior approval. My dealer took one look at it and agreed to fix it under warranty, they took photos and sent to Toyota corporate so they are aware of the problem. Hopefully Toyota comes out with a TSB on this and !maybe a solution for people.

I think anyone who drove their car in winter has this problem. Especially us in the Toronto area as salt is used heavily.

I must truely have a golden FRS. They both look like new! I wonder if they use harsher stuff over there? Here it's just salt...alot of salt.

I would suggest to spray the pillar slighty with WD40. The capillary effect should indeed push water away and prevent rust..don't get it on the glass.

There hasn't been a snowflake within 50 miles of my car and I've got it.

Have you pushed down on the hard rubber where it crosses the pillar?

Mine has only been rained on a few days in the year I've owned it and it has clear rust lines on both sides. Seriously, I bet I could count the # of days it has seen rain on possibly one hand but for sure two.

Did Subaru/Toyota find a fix for this? I can't find any other thread. I'm thinking if taking mine to the dealership. I just hope they don't mess up my tint that was recently installed.

I went and saw the new 2015 FRS at the toronto AutoShow back in February and I noticed that the hard black window trim on my version of the car (2013 MY) has been replaced by a much softer window trim that will not rub the paint on the metal pillar.

If you are taking this to a dealer to get it fixed, you should ask them to not only replace the the small triangle window with the metal pillar, but also to replace the black window trim with the upgraded part so that it does not happen again.
