I can squeeze out 400 miles on a tank. I live in the Laughlin NV/Bullheard City AZ area, so it's not really city nor is it highway driving.
I use every gas saving technique I can think of. I start in 2nd gear snow mode (I have the automatic). I use manual shifting, upshifting at 2000-2100 RPM. And featherfoot the throttle as much as possible. I maintain higher gears as long as possible. Not much fun, but I traded in a Prius, so I got used to good gas mileage. Doing this, I can get 33-34 MPG on the dashboard; maximum speed 45 MPH. This is opposed to 35-36 on the highway; maximum speed 75-77 MPH. I have less than 2000 miles on the car, so maybe it'll get better when the engine loosens up a bit. I still blast it to redline when I am in the mood. I just have to pick my spots. And not too often. Needless to say, I didn't buy a sports car for fuel economy runs. But my gas budget has pretty much doubled, what with the reduced MPG and premium gas. BUT I LOVE THIS FRIGGING CAR!!! |

![]() First off, I feel that trying to measure your gas mileage by figuring on how far a car will go on a tank of gas may be misleading, because of the variables involved. I would suggest that you fill up your tank to "click off" on the pump re-set the trip meter to "0", drive till the tank is down to about 1/4 and fill up (to click off) at the same pump then claculate d your gas mileage (miles driven divided by gallons consumed). Repeat this cycle maybe three times, then average all three values. This should give you a good idea of your average gas mileage. humfrz |

I get around 420KM before red light comes on with 60% highway, 40% city.
I'm guessing it could get 450km sh til its fully empty. Depends on weather conditions too. If its snow/cold, that average goes way down. Fall, I was averaging about 8.7L/100km and now during the winter, about 9.8L/100km. I usually follow speed limit during the city and 7000 rpm it when im on the on ramp. |

I get about 270 miles from first click of full at pump to low light on, give or take. That's usually the high end but its always pretty close to that. Tropical climate, 80's, pretty much sea level, lots of stop and go city.

Thank you all for your inputs, I will continue to monitor the car , and start grandma driving it to see how my mileage improves. Half of me wants it to be the cars fault for the poor mileage, the other half wants it to be my fault so this way nothing is wrong with the car lol

When do you fill up? There's at least 50 miles difference between the 1/4 fill line and when the light comes on.
When the light comes on is generally about 10 gallons, worst case 200 miles isn't unusual with all city driving, EPA estimates 22 mpg with the manual transmission. I usually get 250-320 miles on a tank depending on how and where I'm driving. |

You do not have to "grandma drive" the car to get good gas mileage. Over 103 tanks, I've averaged 334 miles to the tank and 32.5MPG (including a few where I filled before my normal just before the light comes on). Most of it is closer to highway speed than in city speed. See my owner's journal first post for the full breakdown by tank. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6178 I do not, under any stretch of the imagination grandma drive. I'm usually full throttle at launch and my goal is to make the traction control light blink at me around curves. Like others suggest, you should check the mileage by calculating it, and maybe even take a couple of highway speed road trips to see if you get better. My guess is you spend a lot of time not moving too fast.

Thanks everyone, yeah i think my poor mileage is probably due both to driving on lock roads, hitting traffic lights constantly, and by hooning around. But I am going to continue monitoring my mileage and try and come up a more accurate mileage.

Mine gets about 26-27mpg. Lots of uphill in my daily commute and the negative degree weather here doesn't help. During the summer it jumps up to 30-31mpg.
