That means this level of BRZ is probably going to be around for at least 7 years before a refresh comes along. That means MY 2020, since this started at MY 2013, NOT MY 2016.

For someone who labels themselves as an engineer and tech geek, your inability to comprehend the difference between a mid cycle refresh (which I pointed out happened with the WRX almost every two years including power increases in 2006 and 2009) and a full model change baffles me.

GH/GR WRX was released in 2007, received a refresh in 2009, ended production in 2014. = 7 years

The first model year WRX in the US was 2002. It received a facelift and little else for 2004. Switched from 2.0 to 2.5 in 2006. New body in 2008. New turbo and suspension for 2009. Wide body in 2011 w/ little to no other changes.

The GC WRX never existed as a US model.

New chassis and body in 2008, not just a body.

What are we arguing about?

The above argument is predicated on Subaru waiting until they do a refresh to the current BRZ to up its engine performance. The other route they may choose to go is to create a parallel STI version with a higher price point that has a life cycle somewhat independent of the base car.

From a market analysis perspective this latter option has a lot of upside. There is clearly a pent-up demand for a more powerful BRZ, as both the reviews and general online chatter make clear; and aside from the brutish, none-too-gracefully aging, and rather ill-handling 370Z there is no comparable 250-300 hp sports car in the $30-40k price range. If they acted quickly Subaru could have the niche pretty much to itself for a few years until the Nissan and/or Kia cars hit the market.

I meant body + chassis. I'm not arguing, was just correcting some of the previous info that was slightly off.
