I have had extended warranties on three previous Subaru's (2 SVX's and a 2006 Tribeca) I never got to use them once. On all five Subaru's that I have owned since 1995, I have only had two parts go out, and it was a $6.75 A/C relay that was not covered anyways on the Tribeca and wheel bearings on the SVX's. Maybe I am very lucky, but that is my experience. My wife loves the Tribeca so I have had it longer than any car I have ever owned. It is 8 going on 9 years old and it still has not had any parts replaced (except for relay). I bought it the first month they came out, so it was a new design at that time. The extended warranty is now gone and I got nothing out of it, or any others on my Subaru's.
Later this year the Tribeca will be sold and replaced by either the new Audi A3 or possibly the 2015 Legacy Sport if it has been improved on interior materials as the new press releases are claiming. The Audi would be leased, so no warranty would be needed, but if I was buying it for the long term, I would get one. I have owned two Audi's (A4 Quattro and Cabriolet) Both needed some expensive work during the extended warranty period. Also had a 2001 BMW M Coupe that I would not have bought without an extended warranty and it paid off. For a Subaru, I feel pretty safe without one. |

I was talking with the finance manager or sales, one of them, and the guy kept pushing for me to get it and I was explaining to him that I plan to boost the car and that the warranty will be voided. He then proceeds to tell me that the warranty will not be voided if I went boost and I almost snapped because it definitely will void it. I decided to opt out and save 3k. End of story they didn't seem to happy since I got the BRZ for 26570. Didn't really make much of me I guess.

You should stop using the word void and replace it with "denied". Warranty is for the parts and any associated labor with replacement of faulty parts, thus aftermarket mods that may cause parts to fail is grounds for a warranty claim to be denied. Educate yourself on how warranty contracts are structured, because it cannot be voided unless one party decides to pull out of executing it under pre-agreed conditions. -alex |

Also, is a 3 year / 36,000 mile maintenance agreement worth it for 1350?

Put the your warranty agreement to which you are referring in a digital file and send it to us. There is no other way for any responsible person to properly comment on your #22 post. A warranty is a legal document. Consider it accordingly.

Note: There are completely separate warranties specifically for tire/wheels. Not that I would recommend getting one.
Also, in regards to towing/road service, posters may want to confirm if their car purchase may already INCLUDE towing and road service. Note that Subaru has Subaru Roadside Assistance that is included in the 3year/36,000 mile warranty. Another consideration is your auto insurance provider and what they would charge for a road service provision. (consider this AFTER 3yrs or 36000 miles). Check your plastic packet that you received when purchasing the car. It should be in the glove compartment along with manufacturer's tire warranty, owner's manual and the Warranty/maintenance booklet. Also keep in mind that if your passenger door falls off, it would still be covered under warranty terms even if you add a supercharger to the engine.. Good luck, everyone. Some may need it. Quote:

The dealer can mark it up as they see fit. Some throw in extended warranties at no added cost in competitive markets (midsize Japanese family sedan $25-35k is one), others will mark it high and give you a huge discount to give the impression of a good deal. -alex |
