I'm still trying to understand too.

If I ONLY do the free upgrade to ProECU BRZ can I:

A) Create my own map from scratch

B) Edit everything in a tune as long as my tuner unlocks it EXCEPT editing any of the RACEROM features he created.

If I BUY the RaceROM BRZ:

C) I can create my own map from scratch including RaceROM features and custom Maps

D) Can fully Edit a tune from my tuner (inlcuding RaceROm features) as long as he unlocks it for me.

All ECUtek tuners know the answer and a few of them spend time in the forum on their personal time. I'm sure you are eager to get the answer too.

Absolutely! Although I'm still not sure if I would want to spend that much money on license which I can't transfer unlike OFT. And considering rapid development of OFT and RR and some local tuners who are willing to tune with opened tools I may not have to in a 1-2 yrs when I will go FI (getting conservative with age, the days of early adopter are over)

A) Yes you can create your own map from scratch. You just can't use the advanced Racerom features that are included in the upgraded version

B) Not sure on this one, but if I had to guess, once you decide to use the editing software, you cannot use the advanced features without paying the unlock fee, even if you already had them in a tune that was created for you. I'm not 100% on that, ask Ecutek directly on this one.

C) You can create your own map from scratch using the features that are available, example, if you have the free version you can use those features that are outlined in the free version but the Custom Maps section will only be included in the full RaceRom version.

D) I doubt any tuner is going to unlock their Racerom and Custom maps for anyone.

These are the answers to your questions based on my interpretation of the newsletter. I do not guarantee that these answers are 100%, but they are to the best of my knowledge. Hope this helps.

This is going to be the biggest problem for most of us who want to smooth out our dyno tunes a bit more. I'd love to make small adjustments so my car is less jerky at low rpms, the spots that aren't really tuned for on a dyno. Still a fairly awesome announcement from EcuTek.

this !

i remember with one of our built sti's. The car was solid and pulled like a charm with an almost perfect values pulled from a log, as it spent a full day on a dyno, but god was it awful to drive around until we left it with the tuner for a day to street tune him self and actually drive it around in traffic.

frankly i can't see why they would mind unlocking them. of course i think they should, given that the person paid for the damn work. as far as security or ip concerns, the whole point is that it's a bespoke calibration. the data itself is of little value to anyone else and could even be further protected against sharing without effecting the owners right to use it at his discretion. there really is no good reason to deny it. the old 'he'll mess it up and blame it on me' argument comes up frequently, but tuners don't typically warranty their customers' engines to begin with, so what's new there?

i think to most people this won't be an issue though. if a customer is into tuning their car then it's probably better for them to start from scratch anyway.

I asked about map switched tunes and you can edit the map on the basic ProECU version, but only mode 1 is possible to be changed. That would leave me to believe @Sportsguy83 is correct.

You should be able to do that in the non RaceROM version.

There is a big thread in the software section which should answer all these questions. I’m pretty certain I’ve seen you in there. If you still need something answered get in touch.
