How much does the subbie boxer weigh? (4 cyl)

Let me see I remember, I had some word doc someone wrote while ago on 13B-REW weight speculation...

K, found it!

Page 10 of the 1993 Mazda RX-7 sales brochure. The last paragraph on the page reads as follows...

"The net result is a new powerplant, including engine
ancilliaries, exhaust system, and final drive, that is much more
powerful, yet at approximately 320 kg weighs no more than
the previous engine"

Now 320 kg is 704 lbs. (1 kg = 2.2 lbs.)

Part - Weight (Weighed by)
Final drive (differential) - 77.6 lbs.
Transmission (5 speed) - 112 lbs.
Powerplant frame - 22.3 lbs.
Driveshaft - 14 lbs.
Pre-catalytic converter - 22.6 lbs.
Catalytic converter - 33.5 lbs.
Cat-back exhaust - 33.6 lbs.
Total: 315.6 lbs.

704 lbs. - 315.6 lbs. = 388.4 lbs. Close to an accurate weight for a 13B-REW with all accessories.

As for LS9... I have no clue. I'm no good on American sports car specs, so can't help out on that one.

well an LS9 is essentially an LS3 with superchager and top mount intercooler, so its possibly pretty close. I think that would be a ridiculous awsome swap in an rx7, if not too much...an LS1/2/3 would be more then enough to begin with, then add the hp/torque of the superchager...*drool* I would love to see one though

American tuner put LS engine in FD...
Japanese tuner put F20C engine in BMW...

any one seen an old episode of fifth gear when a FC3S beats a australian super car V8 that shoot out was one of my fav. I love the V8's but not on a FD or FC

Are all the boxer blocks made of aluminum? It seems like they should be lighter. I've been doing some research on the nasioc site, but I guess it's hard to compare their engines since it's rumored that the FT will have a reworked engine by toyota/yamaha.

Yes ever since the 1st Subarus with a flat four was produced back in 1967 they had always been all alloy.
Remember with a boxer you have two equial sized block halves, 2 x heads, 4 cams etc so would weight a bit more compaired to a alloy inline 4 with 1 head, 2 cams etc.

I would say new engine will be the next gen Subaru engine that will have timming chain?, Virable Valves, lighter shorter, with Directect injection.
I would say toyota would add there fancy DI tech to it. Would they still do new heads for it?

My boxer engine only has 2 cams instead of 4. lol

lol. Well I can do one better since I got a few old skool subbies I got 1 cam nice simple and light weight 1400cc boxer 4 with push rods, twin Carbs a whole 93bhp lol

No clue yet.. it mite not be till the 2012 versons come out???
As far as I know subaru only has released that pic and a few feactures of the prototype will have at one of the car shows.
