How much does the subbie boxer weigh? (4 cyl)

The engine swap thread made me think of this - please accept my apologies if this has been covered in said thread. I was wondering if there is a site that gives a list of how much popular engines weigh.

Perhaps, there is a site that lists the weight of certain boxer engines, the LS1, and 2jz - popular, often swapped engines.

I googled, but didn't find anything.

it's pretty light. fully assembled it can easily be lifted by 2 people who aren't complete weaklings, haha. maybe 180lbs??

I remember this data base of engines weight, it says the 2.2liter subaru engine is 269lbs

IIRC when my friend ordered a new short block for his STi the shipping manifest said 98lbs or 89lbs, I cant remember. But under 300lbs sounds about right for fully dressed.

as for the others, the LS1 is lighter than my cast iron 4cyl and the 2jz is a boat anchor

the 3S is a bit heavy, but i love the durability of the cast iron block! well, until you start pushing crazy hp numbers and cracking cylinders and stuff.

My gripe with a non boxer swap is the change in balance and dynamics of the car. The very compact boxer engine will be mounted very low and behind the front axle- lowering the CofG of the car and thus improving handling. A swap to an inline or V engine will raise the CofG and mount the motor farther forward...

so it'd be like most cars we drive today, yes? most I4's are mounted right above the front axle, being FWD and all. While I don't agree with putting an inline or V motor in, I don't think it'd murder the car.

is it true a LS9 is lighter than a 13B turbo, thats why FD3S people are swaping them

Midship Runabout 04-02-2010 02:18 PM

^ dont know. that would be hard to believe.
I think they just want this thing called torque

NESW20 04-02-2010 02:31 PM

i've heard that it actually is roughly the same once you add on turbos, intercooler, etc onto the 13b.
