I have zero blindspots.
The way I was taught was this: 1.Center your rear view mirror to where you can see as much of the rear window as possible. 2. While sitting in the driver seat, lean over and put you head up against the window looking at the driver side mirror. Adjust your mirror to where you can JUST barely see the back quarter panel of the car in the mirror. 3. Lean over towards the center console and do the same with the passenger side mirror. If done correctly, you'll notice that as cars start to leave your rear view mirror, they start appearing in your side view mirrors. As they leave your side view mirrors, you'll be able to see them next to you through the window. I was taught this when I had my permit about 7 years ago. I've had all my cars' mirrors adjusted in the same fashion and have never once had an issue.

When the object in the rear view begins to move out of view in that mirror, it has already begun overlapping (just barely) into the side mirror. AND, it gives full lane coverage to left and right, so you have a total of 3 lanes covered. Only way you'd have a blind spot is if someone comes sailing into your left or right lane while you're changing lanes, and thus wasn't spotted (b/c he/she was 2 lanes over, not one lane) when you began to change lanes, and didn't bother to look for someone merging into their intended lane.

Edit: I always follow this rule of thumb when adjusting side view mirrors: A car is coming up to pass in the lane next to you. You see it in your rear view mirror. As soon as it disappears from your rear view, you should immediately see it coming up in your side view mirror. When it disappears from your side mirror, you should see it well in your peripheral vision and by looking through the drivers side and passenger side windows. |

picked up these on black friday, instead of using the included tape I removed the old mirrors and used window urethane to glue these onto the holders. I got them because of glare from vehicles behind me, they've done an amazing job at making that bearable. The convex is also pretty goddamn nice in addition to having properly adjusted mirrors |

Hopefully you didn't pay that much. Rexpeed ones are available for about half that +/- a little and they just came out with heated ones to replace those that were heated from the factory.

1) black friday
2) i wanted to try yellow on the mirrors, I'm really liking the yellow so far, these absolutely cost more than the rexspeed route, and were more labor intensive (hour or so on a lazy morning) still not disappointed at all. |

I said this before, there will always be a blind spot. If you do as you say for us in California we open up a new blind spot. (Lane sharing is legal) We need to see down the side of the car to see motorcycles coming up between us which leaves a blind spot big enough to hid a Suburban. Guys, help others with ideas instead of adjust your mirrors. I found a new set of mirrors that will open up the view 30% more. $80 http://ft86speedfactory.com/rexpeed-...rrors-852.html I'm sorry if I come off upset. We need to understand that the car isn't perfect. I've driven enough years and enough different cars to know when visibility is difficult. This car is!

Again, not true. With these mirrors, you can eliminate your blind spots between the rear view mirror & side mirrors & get coverage of the lanes immediately to your left & right with a small overlap so even a motorcycle wouldn't sneak through.
At least on the BRZ you can. I think (can't remember) the fr-s has smaller side mirrors, so yeah I can see folks having blind spot issues there. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

Came across this thread because of the huge bindspot my FR-S has. I'm always constantly looking before changing lanes. I normally do this once just to make sure, but on the FR-S I do it more than once since the side visibility is horrible.
I ordered the Rexspeed Mirrors today and was stoked that they weren't the stick on type rather a full mirror replacement. Plus it is polarized, anti fog, and the blue tint looks sick. |
