Yeah, you're absolutely right. For the layman, it makes sense that pushing the lever UP results in an UPshift, and likewise DOWN for a DOWNshift. Every single truck/SUV I've seen has this shift config, for example.

Yesterday I drove a 2008 Lexus IS-F for a couple hours, which also has a "backwards" sequential shifter in the console. However, to me, the console shifter is worthless. There are "flappy paddles", and they actually work surprisingly well. It's not on par with the best dual-clutch setups out there (like what Ferrari and McLaren are putting out) but for a torque converter it was damn good--easily the best I've ever driven. I always let torque converters shift themselves, but the IS-F actually pleasant to shift. If the 86 is that good, then




I think we need a version of that smiley for the AT guys out there--instead of a floor shifter, it should have paddles on the wheel
