is it possible to rejigger the auto manual mode shifter to flip gear up/down?

maybe i just like the setup better in mazdas and bmws (or was it benz) in which shift up is pull shifter down, was just wondering if its possible to reverse it?

probably not a simple diy, but is it possible?

I had that issue with my past bimmers when they switched it between models. To me, the BRZ is correct now, push up to Upshift, pull down to Downshift. Mess with it and I'll be bouncing off the redline on every shift :o

BRZ/FR-S is backwards. Every race car I've been involved with, you pull back to go up in gear, and push fwd to go down in gear. Basically using inertia to help you shift, acceleration moves you backwards, braking moves you forward.

Exactly.

Not everyone wants to use the paddles, though.

Jeez, just get used to it. There's nothing logical about either method.

A manual gearbox uses both directions for both depending on the gears and shift pattern.

When you drive a particular car you just adapt.

Rude... Don't tell someone who is asking if something is possible to just get used to it. He's not fucking with your car, so stand-off.

I saw a kit on ebay a while back that changed the markings on the console and did the wires too. Looked pretty neat. The backwards thing has become the industry standard for manual autos, and it bugs me to no end....

:bs:

Gunman already said it: the shift motion should reflect the momentum of the car. As you slow down, your momentum continues forward--so you press the lever forward to shift down. As you speed up, you get pushed back in the seat--hence pulling back for upshifts.

That makes perfect sense to me. What's illogical is why so many street cars continue to have it reversed...:iono:

In this case, the auto is being used like a sequential box, not an "H" pattern.

Because most cars aren't pushed like they are on a race track is my guess really. No need to factor in the inertia if there isn't any from the driving style. :D

I bet that if the tuners really wanted to they could figure something out that would accommodate changing the shifting on the AUTO. It would have to be like the SYVECS in the GT-R community. The only issue is demand.
