in my '05 Celica i was having problems with wind noise and road noise. After upgrading the stereo sys. i wanted to be able to enjoy the sound quality and also drive hard at the same time..
Seeing as the car was modified, it had a loud exhaust (GReddy Ti-C cat-back) which was very overpowering after 3,000 RPM. I installed the Dynamat in a matter of a few hours, it was all very simple, 1. carefully take off your door panels, carpets, and anywhere else you wish to deaden noise. 2. put on thick gloves because the black adhesive on the underside is STICKY and can be sharp when cut to fit. 3. simply lay the Dynamat out and cut it to fit flush against any metal surface, roll over the material with something heavy to reinforce the bond. 4. reinstall interior. this made a HUGE difference in the ride comfort (MUCH less vibration), sound quality, as well as livability with all the mods seeing as the car was my daily driver. HOWEVER Dynamat weighs a metric shit- ton , and decreased performance by a slim margin. however, after tearing half of it out and strategically placing the remaining few pounds in smart locations, i got the best of both worlds. |

I have two weaknesses. Cars, and music. My car is my sanctuary, I spend a lot of time there, I want it to be sonic heaven. From the exhaust on the twisty bits, and from the speakers on the highway.

I understand completely, but my budget is more around the 3-4k mark, installed :P
Let me know what you find out about the sound dampening material, please (product, number of sheets, location, etc.). Good luck!

My older daughter and I did her Black 2008 Scion TC, firewall to rear, doors and rear hatch, rear pillars to headliner, rear wheel wells. Raammat and ensolite.
Solid, quiet (borla exhaust is loud), better bass from subwoofer, cooler car in the heat of South Florida. Added 75 lbs to the weight of the car. I explained this to my younger daughter and her response was "Why make a light car heavy dad?" We are applying ensolite only to the rear trunk loud right now. Hoping to cancel the hollow sound coming from the rear when the seats are folded. |
