I was thinking the same at first. 19's. Then I thought about this car and, although an agressive wheel/tire setup would look good it might seem a bit pretentious to shod it with huge wheels/tires. The thought that some people might snicker at the thought of a 200 hp car with huge wheels/tires also crossed my mind too. I know... I know... what others think doesn't rule my life, but it did enter my mind. Then I thought about "spirit" of the car. Light, sporty and relatively affordable sports coupe. That's when I decided that I'll try to keep costs to, somewhat, of a minimum and go with 18's and non-staggered.

Increasing tire sidewall costs less weight than increased rim diameter, not to mention a smaller rim diameter reduces moment of inertia.

Oh derp, I didn't realize you considered 17" as small...lol sorry.

Not really true, especially when the rubber contains steel belts. The stock 215/45-17 Michelin Primacy HP tire weighs 20lbs. Most performance tires that will be a major upgrade in grip will weigh from 22 to 26lbs in 16" and 17" sizes. Most lightweight 16" and 17" wheels weigh between 12 and 20 lbs.

I plan to upgrade to 16x7.5-8 wheels with 225/50-16 tires - better ride and grip levels at an extremely minor degradation in steering quickness and a weight increase penalty. Huge price difference though... 225/50-16 Hankook RS-3 are one of the best bang for the buck extreme performance tires - grip and feel like the Nitto NT-01 track tire while costing a little over $110 each.

18 or 19's staggered set up 235 front, 255 in rear, should look good, and since I will be adding intake, headers, exhaust, and removing about 100-150 lbs should be perfect.

the new autoblog review has mention that the rears can go up to 235 while the front seems to be stuck at 215.

Either 18's all around or an 18/19 stagger will look-a real nice... 19's all around starts to look like a Hot Wheels car, IMO.
