Starting in 2009, VW started doing free maintenance for 3 years /36k miles. With an service interval of 10k miles, that amounts to three free oil changes.

Also starting in 2009, they dropped their bumper to bumper warranty from 4/50 to 3/36. It definitely was not worth the reduction of warranty for 3 oil changes.

Has this OCI been stated anywhere? I know OCIs are getting longer and longer, but considering how small the oil pan is on the FA20, I think the engine will have less than 5qt of oil and therefore a much shorter OCI.

The dealership I got my current car from gives you new tires if you get the servicing there. So I pay a little more to get my oil changed (not much more really) and they just slapped a new set of tires on free of charge a couple months ago.

That was a dealer thing but if you're concerned about things like included care be sure to check what your local dealership might offer as extras for dealing with them.

It's the OCI for FB20. FA20 might be shorter, but I doubt it.

Don't forget if you drive in harsh conditions (frequent short drives where the oil doesn't get to heat up) the OCI will likely be half of the normal OCI.

The FA20's oil pan is at most half the depth of the FB20.

The topic is not about proper OCI given driving, it's about what Scion 'free maintenance' would cover. I doubt they would cover increased frequency due to driving conditions the owner deems harsh. I might be wrong though, since I have zero knowledge of Scion practices.

Simply stating; knowledge is paper.

I know for my scions they don't care if you have gone in a bit early for your oil change.
and with my xD it has free lifetime oil changes and it is supposed to be changed every 10,000 or a year with full synthetic, but i take it in every 4 months/4k mi and they don't ever give me a problem about it.

Thank the DSG for that. IIRC, 40k service interval @ nearly $500 a service.

Not at all. People rarely seem to factor these points in when they see the free service for X miles/years.

I also giggle when people reply how reliable their new "vehicle X" is after only 30k-40k miles.

IMO if anything other than oil and filter changes are required in the first 60k miles, the car wasn't engineered well to begin with(not counting small things like an O2 sensor blowing, which would be under warranty anyway!).

Scion incentives really aren't enough for me to wear their brand....

If the FR-S was badged a Toyota, I might have a harder time deciding.

I didn't even consider the included service when shopping. I traded an xB in on the FR-S and I never used any of the free service on that either. It's faster for me to get the oil myself and change it than to go to the dealer.

I haven't even looked at the oil specs for this car, but I assume it requires synthetic since it wants 0w20. If I can count on the dealer filling it with synthetic, I may use the free oil changes even thought I generally hate dealer service departments.
