That's cool that the keyhole is there.

Better than the Mini Cooper, that has the handle hidden, but no keyhole.

Combine that with a dead battery in the trunk with no keyhole and hilarity ensues.

Glad to see Subaru/Toyota have some common sense.

There is no lever, its a button. The button is electronic and didnt seem to work when I tried it at the show, I dont really like that. I would prefer a system less reliant on electronics; the same goes for the rest of the cars features.

I'm sure it wasn't defective. It either didn't detect the key, or the car was locked.
I have something similar on my Auris; no issues whatsoever, and I don't expect any. And... I'd rather press a button than manually unlock using the key, when my hands are full with luggage. Same for the car itself (Smart Entry&Start, anyone? ).
YMMV. I can perfectly understand if someone would rather like the old way of doing things.

Hidden key hole...What could have been the thing that stopped me from getting it is now another reason to get the car over competitors.

Maybe I can oblige (assuming you are talking about the BRZ)- take another look at that ugly orthodontic retainer in the front grille...

As for the FR-S: the white tach; the base HU; the ugly Scion logo on the steering wheel hub.

that key fob makes me want to barf!

Cars that are equiped with keyless go/comforat access/etc. use a proximity key. So when you get near your car with your key fob nicely in your pocket all you have to do is press that black rubber button and the trunk unlocks and opens all at the same time. If you want to secure items in your trunk and lock it, you have to click/press a button (usually in the glove compartment) and release the valet key from the fob. You leave the fob with the parking attendent and have the mini key with you. The mini key also locks the glove compartment which that switch to lock your trunk is in. So no worries about crooked valets getting to y our valuables.

What do you expect the key fob to look like? It's not a Lexus. The keyless start fob looks different.

Personally, I feel key tumblers are advertisements to thieves: "hey, come jimmy my lock!". The e-switch that's already there between the license plate lights is totally sufficient.

For perspective, I'm accustomed to hatchbacks where there's always redundant access to the storage area. Does the FR-S/BRZ not have access to the fold-down seats from the passenger compartment?

It probably does. But if it's like my spec.B, the buttons to release the seats have locks in them.
