I got one axle out using a 3ft bar. Now that one axle is out, however, when I pry on the other side the diff just slides on the ground and I cannot get the leverage to get the other axle out of the carrier. I thought about bolting it back up to pry on it but I don't think the axle would pop out with the carrier in place. I'll have to find some clever way of securing it so i can get leverage. It is a real PITA.

The special tool is probably a slide hammer. That's what we use at the shop to remove clipped in axles. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the housing moving like you do with the pry bar. Maybe wedge a 2x4 on the opposite side to keep it from walking across the floor while prying?

1. How do the axles come free of the diff carrier? It looks like you just unbolt the carrier and lower it down and they slide out. Not sure if I have to take any rear suspention apart here. Do I have to disconnect the axles at the rear hubs?

2. I have all the tourqe values I need except the bolts that connect the differential and axle. Looks like a dozen or so small black bolts. Anyone have the tourqe values on those?

3. Will I need to remove the mid-pipe for this install?

4. Will I need to pull out the drive shaft? Tourqe specs anyone?

If anyone has any advice it would be most appreciated. A general step by step would make my day! I am sure I can figure it out, but it will go much smoother if some of you can chime in with some info. Car is up in the air now. Trying to get this done over the weekend.
Can you share what rear diff you are swaping?

Got the axles out. Yay!

Installing the rear subframe inserts right now. I got one of the rears in but I cannot get the drivers side rear hole to line up. I've hit it with a hammer, pry bar, jacked the car up, jacked it down, etc. just can't get it to line up. I may try to lessen the front sub frame bolts to try and wiggle it in place.

If it ant one thing it is another!

Loosened up the front sub frame bolts and was able to line it all back up again.

Done for the day. Hopefully I can finish tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the help guys!

The SST looks like a slide hammer to me. Glad pry bar worked!

Need one last thing: what are the tightening specs on the rear sway bar mount?

Any pix of the install? Also, what do you plan to do with the spare diff?

Just finished everything. I did the following:

Whiteline trans mount insert
Whitleine subframe inserts
Whiteline diff cradle inserts
Kartboy rear shifter bushing
Pentosin fluid
Cusco 4.55 final drive
TRD intake

It was a loooooooong weekend!

Shifting feels great. Very smooth and precise. I love the subframe inserts. They are by far the best upgrade of the lot. I am going to drive the car for the week as is and see how things go. I was a bit overwhelmed by the NVH on the first test drive. It wasn't offensive but the change is very evident.

No pics. I bought a second one so I cold swap it out if something goes wrong. The change in gearing is much more profound than I thought it would be. Like I said, I'll have to run it over the week and see how it all goes.

Does anyone know if it is safe to take out two of the four whiteline diff inserts? As in, either the two fronts or the two rears? The more I think about it the less I understand why stiffening up the diff that much is a good idea. If I can take two out and tone down the NVH it would be nice. But I don't want to put any added stress on anything in the process....
