The BRZ and FR-S are both birth baby's of the GT-86. To say its either Subaru or Scion would be BS its a joint venture. Everyone has their opinion, to me whether I have a FR-S or BRZ to me it is a Gt86, but that's me is all.
There is a sticky "somewhere" here which breaks down who contributed what to the car but I wouldn't say as some would that its one versus the other. When near a PC ill try to find that post/thread here...

Since they make the FRS in the same factory as the BRZ and GT86, if quality control was poor it is possible that they may have made a mistake on a few FRS's and install HID lights.

And to those who didn't know, Toyota owns part of Subaru, making this joint venture even possible. (But bc Toyota only owned half of Subaru, the GT86 only got half of the AWD system... j/k - and they own much less than half.)
