My dealer told me Subaru OE oil is branded Mobil 1. Take that for what it's worth.

There are two Subaru branded oils from what I've heard. I've also heard the rumor that the US dealers get Mobil 1 rebrand.

The original fill is Idemitsu however. I think that was verified at some point.

If your dealer has the Idemitsu I'm sure they will know it. I just ordered some online since I don't have a local subi dealer.

I've been using Royal Purple 0W20 Synthetic and am very happy with it. Many new cars have gone to the lighter multi-vis oils; it's a fuel economy move. If I were tracking the car, I'd be inclined to investigate a heavier, broader range alternative, but I think the OEM recommendation is probably safe for "normal" use.

The Subaru oil is made by Idemitsu and says so on the label. The factory fill is a different formula than the dealer/service fill.

The Toyota dealer/service oil (Toyota Genuine Motor Oil) is purportedly made by ExxonMobil, but the formula is different than Mobil1 0W-20.

If i remember correctly, there are some members from the Philippines and Hong Kong stating that the dealer there use 5w-30.

The dealership that i bought my car from said they use Subaru oil, but for +$30 extra on top of the service charge, they can put Motul. I get my oil changed at an independent shop using Motul for 40% less than what dealer charges.

Mobil is who makes Toyota branded oil, at least that's what the MSDS says. I know some people will dispute that, they know not what they speak of.
