What oil does Subaru dealerships use in the BRZ??

I have always changed my own oil but have not gotten around to getting ramps and can not get under my BRZ. So, taking to the dealer for the first oil change.

What make of oil does Subaru use at the dealership for their synthetic oil changes???

Subaru brand oil 0w-20 over here.

Wo6M 05-26-2013 11:09 PM

yea Subaru im assuming would use 0w-20 of course with the highest standard grade for engine life.

you can of course buy aftermarket oil of the same viscosity but MUCH higher grade in terms of additives.

I hope this help somewhat.

Say what? What is this higher grade of additives that you are referring to?

Idemitsu, Mobil1, Castrol, Shell, Valvoline, etc. all buy their additives from the same small handful of companies (e.g. Lubrizol, Infineum). There are differences in terms of how much of which additives that different manufacturers use, but these levels have to meet minimum/maximum requirements as outlined by the API/ILSAC.

BRZnut - You should contact your dealer if you really want to know. Some dealer's use the Subaru/Idemitsu oil, some use Mobil1 0W-20, some use Castrol, etc.

Oil has grades, I'm not educated on specific companies on what additives they do or don't use but
but the automotive society of engineers ultimately gives a grade to each oil being sold.
If I brought any confusion I apologize.

Just returned from the Dealer for my first oil change and I asked. They said they do not use the Subaru oil because it is too expensive. They use Castrol 0W20 instead.

I know C&C Motors in Whitby, Ontario uses Gulf Oil for their synthetic requiring cars.

they most likely used the subaru synthetic in your car, the mobil is just for all the other oils they might use if theirs were to run out, or for other services such as diff , transmission etc.

I've yet to have my first oil change. I wonder what the dealers use for tropical countries. I'm no Bobistheoilguy, but isn't 0W-20 more for cooler climates?
