At the end of the day, I've never been able to quit smoking because I actually like and physically enjoy smoking. I've quit for months at a time and withdrawal goes away, but my desire to smoke/do the ritual never goes away.

You should write down where you smoke, why you smoke, and other pertinent things related to your smoking. You should notice a pattern emerging; avoiding your common "triggers" is a good way to kick the habit. For example, always have a cigarette at a certain bench outside somewhere or on the path to your building? Avoid that bench, walk a different path, etc..

I'll quit for good one day though.

EDIT: I smoke 27s myself!

I smoked for years. I just made the decision to stop and for me it was easy. I just didn't do it anymore. I know it's a very hard habit for most to kick, I'm just lucky I guess since I have very little will power in other areas lol

I will definitely try this. The only hard part is I smoke ALOT at work, and its not like I have to step outside to have one, I work outside on a freight dock. I simply just climb down a 4 foot ladder off the dock and light one up. I plan on taking a good amount of chewing gum and water with me to hopefully fight this.

Lollipops might work better for jaw fatigue/oral fixation.

My father did the same thing. Just decided he wouldn't ever do it again and hasn't had a cigarette in...over 15 years.

I've never smoked, but I've talked to a lot of people who are using e-cigs to quit. Many haven't had a cigarette in over a year. I don't know much about them, but maybe you could give them a try.

I'm usually irritable if I have a cigarette craving. It's enough for me to avoid cigarettes altogether and buy gum or do other fidgety things like floss my teeth often.

Vaping got me off smoking analog for about 7 months so far, and I've actually dialed back on vaping quite a bit, too, recently.

I stopped for 3 months and the past month have been smoking again. Started once a week when going fishing and going out, a week later it was an everyday thing again.
You just have to fight that urge to have "one" smoke. Its never ends up just being one...

This. This is how addiction works. Just one turns into a full blown relapse that leaves you wondering how just one turned into a harder addiction than before you quit. Always have something on hand to do or somewhere to go if you get an urge that you struggle to fight. Planning is key here.

Never buy a pack or even have lighters; lighters can trigger and buying a pack "to have" will lead to smoking...it's an eventuality.

complete will power for me. I used the beginning of a new school semester as a good starting day to start quiting. Easy to remember when you last had one, and also next time you get sick helps. I happened to get sick when school started, so I didnt even want one for like 3 days because of being sick, I took that as a extra helping tool to quit.

Exactly. I remember back when I quit smoking I made the exception that I can smoke when I drink. I usually only drank once a week but before I knew it, I was drinking everyday. Luckily I caught myself pretty fast and that didn't last too long.

+1 for vaping. Haven't touched a cigarette in 4 months and I came from smoking a pack a day. Now I'm really just down to vaping after meals
