That sucks! There's a whole thread posted about a month earlier about people talking about cracks in their windshields and how many times they've replaced it already.
I think they made the glass thinner as part of their weight reduction ultra light vehicle. Quote:

Toyota sourced a very lightweight windshield. So it probably is more susceptible than most to impact damage.

I am all for lighter, but it seems to have resulted in a substandard part in this case. There is no better price yet, there simply is not an aftermarket solution. As a result, I am stuck getting dealer prices from everyone I talk to. I think I am going to go with the dealership on this one for the repair, though, as the seal around the window looks to be a customized part for the twins, and from what I understand SafeLite uses a generic one when they do repairs.
For those of you who have had yours done, did you go that route, and did you see any difference? |

It might only be an extra $5-10 a month which would be cheaper including using the $250 deductible once per year every year versus buying one windshield out of pocket. $310-$370 versus $500? $600? You might be able to get 2 each year if they're over $600 each. . . . I believe that windshield replacement will NOT affect your insurance rate. They can claim all they want that it won't raise your rate, but it doesn't mean they won't anyway and simply not say that was the reason. But supposedly it doesn't affect it. |
