AARRRGH!! Busted windshield
So, I walked out yesterday after work to find a crack in the center-bottom of my windshield has cracked in a very big way. I will post pics later, but the thing that really amazed me is that I can find no sign of a rock chip or anything like that in the window.
Has anyone else had a windshield break like this? |
More than likely a rock did hit it but just put a very small chip in the glass than you wouldn't notice unless you were really looking for it. If your run a ball point pen up and down the crack, it will catch on the spot were it got chipped and started the crack.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree. On the other hand, I thought I would ask if anyone else had had a stress fracture, cause I would love to have it covered by warranty. It's just frustrating, another $500 down the drain with no improvement to the car if it is a rock chip. knowwhutImean? |
This is covered under insurance...
|
it is covered but multiple windshield replacements will raise your insurance rates..ask me how i know
|
AND they are hitting for a full deductible, which is almost the same as paying myself....
|
sux dude. this is one readon why i hate insurance sooooo much. they take your money and refuse to pay and raise rates.
|
That sucks.

Bummer that sucks... I have a small tiny chip and I filled it in before something like this happens and summer coming can easily make hairline cracks.. I think stock windshield is not strong maybe made out of light materials
|
These windshields are quite pricey, and most charge a permium since they have been tough to find.
If you ever get a rock chip, stop at on of those places in the side of the street and have them to a repair on it. It doesn't make the crack or chip go away, but it stops it from spreading. |
Florida law makes the insurance companies replace cracked windshields at no cost to the consumer. At least FL did something right...
|
ah that's a bummer. I would look around for better prices rather than paying the deductible. My old insurance had free of charge on comprehensive damages, but they were expensive as hell... Now changed to cheaper and somewhat better, but these guys have deductible on comprehensive. Got to be careful.

Four weeks ago, I got my windshield replaced after a 14" crack appeared right in the center caused by a small rock. Six days later, I got hit again by a few pebbles and caused two small chips on the driver's side at eye level but no cracks. Today, on my way to work, I heard something hit the right side of my windshield. By the time I got to work, I see a good 12" crack running across the passenger side. I was pissed. Just couldn't believe a brand new replacement windshield would get damaged this quickly. So I spent all morning calling everyone from the Toyota service dept., warranty dept., Toyota Corporate office as well as the glass shop that replace the first one. All I came out with was a case number filed with Toyota regarding this issue. They tell me to take it up with my insurance company and file a claim. And of course only to find out my deductible is higher than the cost of the repair. I'll have to pay out of pocket AGAIN. This really sucks.
