It looks like he's only tacking it, which shouldn't really cause much oxidation with sufficient shielding. I got my hands on a full titanium Akrapovic slip-on for an R6 a year or two back, and it was an absolute work of art. Retail was something on the order of $6-700 iirc, but I got it direct from the factory in Slovenia so i couldn't say for sure.

The full titanium evo for my R6 was about $1280 but for the Ducati 1098/1198 is around 3K since it was more bends and dual cans. If I remember correctly, I weighed my stock R6 exhaust and the evo and the difference was 18 lbs.

Their car applications are very limited but for motorcycles, there are a lot more applications. They don't offer an exhaust for any current Subaru or Toyota so hopefully that'll change. It's their attention to detail that makes me a fan of their products.

Damn those are some clean welds

Only exhaust I personally have owned have been from Apex'i and HKS

I think its easy to see that there will be a huge aftermarket support with all those pics of aftermarket companies with FRS/BRZ already

Slip-on means just the muffler section? Like after the collector(s)?

Curious about the colour difference they're getting. Looking at the second pic that RRnold posted (911 rear exhaust section?), it looks like the bead is smooth (no 'stack of dimes') like we got on the little piece I made a video about a while ago. But they are getting a much nicer-looking heat band. More like stainless, than our 'rainbow'. EMS has a more colourful effect on their ti intercooler pipe, like ours. Different alloy, or less heat maybe?

We could do with a lot more experience with ti, but that gets expen$ive...

Slip on means canister and an inlet pipe or for cars, rear axle back.

The 2nd pic was a EVO full titanium for a GTR which is about 6K. However, an EVO for the 370Z is SS piping and muffler so they seem to be mixing around their lingo for the cars.

Here is a full EVO full titanium for the RC8 which is about $2200.

Better shielding/backpurging is my bet. Rainbow colors on titanium are caused by the thickness of the surface oxide layer (Rayleigh Scattering rather than actual color change). Less heat would help, but I think in the case of the GTR exhaust, there was more to it than that.

At the risk of getting shot, may I suggest, aluminum after the cat? Clamps over steel tube instead of welded :O As cheap as it gets, as light as it gets. Aluminum has about 10000psi yield strength at cat temperatures, but that's like fiberglass strong still...okay I'll shut up.

Just picked a medium-length 2.5" semi-randomly. Also noticed they have a fatty 6.250" on the second page, but it's almost $400!

You ever hear of anyone using an aluminum can, like those Vibrant ones?

Heard? yes. Seen? not that I've ever noticed. Aluminum sleeves on motorcycle mufflers are fairly common though, and aluminum car mufflers supposedly hold up well enough.

So when I eventually get one of these cars (or a different car that I plan on keeping till it dies) my plan is to replace the steel piping after the cat with aluminum. Since aluminum is a little weaker it'll need a bit more support, but it has super high thermal conductivity so it should be capable of sorta staying cool. Even at 800F it's stronger than plastic pipe which doesn't have a problem holding its own trivial weight up. Probably will join the steel and aluminum with a "sleeve" and clamps like the "Miatabusa" guy did. I'll keep any resonators they stick in there.

Straight through exhausts are really loud though :/ Since mineral wool insulation is so cheap though, I'd like to experiment with a slightly more potent non-resonating design...
