The service guy was probably going to loan you one of the courier cars...or they could have let you take a high-mileage used car as another option (paperwork for long-term test drive/dealer plate). I'm sure as we see more oem accessories coming out, there will be a better understanding of what aftermarket parts are acceptable. Sometimes you can guage your dealer's attitude by how many customized cars are parked in the employee lot.

I don't know if it's been covered, but in California, you cannot rent a car if you're under 25 unless someone over 25 signs the papers for it. I ran into a similar situation many years ago. It sucks, but you're not legally getting a rental without 25+ signature and driver's license.

You can get a rental if in the .mil and under 21 as long as you have Orders. Just have to show the rental agency your orders. I did this when I was in the Corps...some rental companies will rent you car without orders too if you're in the .mil but tough finding one.

You can also rent the car if under 21 yrs of age if the rental is done through a Company/Corporation and not an individual...

But you can't drink or drive a rental.
