Intake resonators have nothing to do with power. They cancel out specific frequencies of sound. They "muffle" an otherwise "annoying" intake. The same is done with exhausts.

The resonators are like helmholtz exhaust resonators which are designed to cancel out certain frequency sound waves to eliminate "drone" at certain rpms (thus frequencies). There can be many of these resonators all with different sizes which cancel out different frequencies. The FT86 has many such resonators in its intake path.

The noise generator is to provide extra noise only at high rpm and only inside the cabin. It doesn't increase noise outside the car. Furthermore, the noise it transmits has already passed all intake resonator "boxes" and thus is "muffled" when it gets to the cabin (ie. no drone).

The point is to also bring more "noise" out of it. Also don't think it will harm anything deleting the resonators. In theory they would also make more drag.

side note that A/m snorkel is cool.... wonder if we can get it in the US.

Look at the TRD griffon.

I'd say you're safe removing the resonator and sound pipe. They wouldn't have done it if it impacted power. All these parts probably were Yamaha's touch. The car does sound pretty decent stock (opinion) while remaining very quiet and unobtrusive at cruise.

Didn't even notice that! Nice find... I'll make sure to rev the car up before and ofter I delete the 3 resonators.

Looks like there are actually 4. There is one small one hiding under the MAF.

1. Main Box
2. Small box
3 & 4. tiny boxes on the snorkel

I believe @doggy on this forum did his own "ram air" style cold air intake mod to the snorkel....

Personally I like the Maxracing snorkel and plan to use one in conjunction with a perrin silicon intake tube. Only because I want to keep the engine bay mostly stock looking, or else i'd get the FA20Club intake.

I have the Perrin Silicone tube and filter so I feel you @Turdinator . I'll be deleted all the resonators friday or sat. I'll make sure to take pictures and make a DIY.

I deleted all the resonators on my stock intake. It was easy. With an Apex-i drop in filter I noticed a slight increase in top end power as well as a nice improvement in induction noise. Cleans up the engine bay nicely, too.

$12 worth of parts from Advance

....Then I got a true CAI and it is sooooo much better

I need to get these parts to delete the resonators.

I like that scoop too.

I remember posting about that scoop a while ago and people hated on it... I'll look for the thread. I think people were worried it would suck up water and hydro-lock the engine. I think that scoop with a works filter and a perrin inlet would be a winner myself.

Yeah I remeber that. It was in either of these threads below. I wouldn't let a loud minority put you off something. Not sure why you'd drive through water that deep in one of these anyway.

Which size plug is for the resonator attached to the intake box?
