Just for speculation, if the supercharged engine is likely to be named 4U-GZSE, then what will the rumored turbocharged FA20 engine be named?

I guess traditionally 5+ means turbo charging, and 7 was the designation for STI engines

EJ205 and EJ255 have been WRX Models
EJ207 and EJ257 have been WRX STI Engines

Does Renault refer to their Nissan sourced engines by their Nissan designation or vice versa? No, a point of information was presented, why make a big deal of it? I swear sometimes.....

Toyota has used engines sourced from other suppliers before, and they always assign it a Toyota designation (Such as the 1WZ from Peugeot and the 1X Holden engines), so it's no surprise that this engine would also get a separate Toyota designation like 4U-GSE. That being said, since this isn't just a pick-up and drop in engine like some of the others were, and actually uses Toyota tech like D4-S, it's even less surprising.

Does that mean Subaru will use the Toyota designation? Probably not.

I imagine both manufacturers to go separate routes with the engine later down the road. Maybe not so much on Toyota, but Subaru definitely will. Their cars rely a lot on these wide flat engines. With or w/o D4-S this is still a Subaru engine. They might just ditch D4-S for a simple direct injection if they can't get agreement with Subaru. Even Mazda is going direct injection, there's no way Subaru won't do it soon.

2GRFE under your nomenclature would imply that the V6 Camry is supercharged...

Edit: the lack of the Z designation has to do with a lot of the supercharged Toyota motors have been post-factory, TRD install on a standard FE motor for example. Motor was not designed with supercharging in mind.
Kinda confused by this i dont know if you're saying all Z motors are supercharged or have an option to be supercharged?

If you are saying Z always means supercharged then i would remind you the 2AZ-FE isnt supercharged from the factory and when introduced in 2002 which there was no supercharger option for the motor until 2004 when the scion tC was introduced.

Z always means the engine is factory supercharged, but in the suffix, not in the engine family name.

TRD supercharged engines are always done afterward, so as the engine didn't come from the factory with a supercharger, it doesn't have the Z in its name.

Yes. Designed for supercharging. 4AGZE was very different from a 4AFE.
