I don't know how well it would work on thick, solid ice, but that spray deicer works really well on thick frost in the morning. I keep a can of it in my little bottle slot on my driver door to spray on my mirrors because scrapping them was annoying. Some times if I'm a hurry I spray the windshield and rear window rather than wait for the car to heat up, works really well.
