place your fingers on the metal part of your key, then touch the key to the ground or anything else that will discharge you through the key. That way you will never be shocked. :P

I couldn't help myself, but this seems appropriate for this thread.

Use your knuckles and tap the cars body(metal part of the body with paint on it) and you'll release the static through your knuckles. Your fingers has BILLIONS of sensors(not really) and your knuckles dont have any(maybe a few?). I learned this technique on my GTI.

It's so easy to avoid this in a car this low.
You carry the charge which builds up due to the seat material creating static.
When you get out you earth that charge through the car body, that much is obvious.
All you need to do when you open the door to get out is to touch your fingers to the ground outside. You wont feel a thing but it will still discharge the static from you. Then get out and feel relieved when you dont get zapped.

If you got out with bare feet that would also earth you, gently but most shoes are enough to insulate the charge ready for a fast discharge to the car body.

Try it.

isnt this kinda dangerous when you're like at the gas station and when you open the gas tank cap and the static catches the fuel fumes it then lights up?

Welcome to Subaru ownership lol... Every Subaru I've ever owned shocks the crap out of me whenever I get out of it in the winter months.

I have been fortunate that I mostly drive my car to work in which I have to wear work shoes that are static discharge certified.

I had this issue with my Acura RSX. Although, it had leather seats and my leather coat had some sort of satin or silk lining to it - not sure if those were factors. You could literally see the blue arc of electricity and it hurt like a bugger.

Touching the ground with my hand worked back then too.

Cracks me up reading this... thought it to be just Me. I've developed the habit of using my elbow gently...

The silica concept is intriguing. Especially since the tires a Michelin like in the 94 accord, and since its a tire off a car where MPG is critical. I'll be interested to see if new tires fix this

After opening my door, i first hold any metal part of it, THEN i put my feet on the ground and get out.
Touch a metal part of the car, then get out while continuing to touch that part.

Ive never since gotten any static shock with any car

Sorry if i might have offended anyone is this seems too simple but its always worked for me. Hope it helps

I have never been shocked once getting out of the BRZ, but my Cavalier used to shock me every time I got out. Does anyone in here have the alcantara/leather seats and still get shocked? Wondering if it's just the base model seat material?
