I am actually thinking about picking one up for myself. Let us know how your install goes.

Yea i know crutchfield had them for like 700 after a 100 main in rebate.

Ill definetley post pictures when I am done. I hope it isnt that hard. As long as the beat-sonic wiring harness is good to go I should be as well lol.

May be of some use to you. Doesn't seem that hard at all. Hardest part might be making sure the wires are all in the right place.

Thanks

Hey guys I finally got this installed and I will give my review on the products used to install this kit.

For starters let me refresh everyone on what I used:
  • Pioneer AVIC-X940BT - 526.89 shipped--Amazon
-For starters the headunit I used is exactly what I was looking for, GPS, handsfree calling, DVD, etc. This is anyones preference but so far I love it. I mounted the handsfree in the stock location. It doesnt fit perfectly because the stock mic is square and the pioneer one is round but a little 3m tape that was provided will support it enough in the stock area. For the GPS and DVD bypass I used this video to repin, as I found it the most useful and exactly what needed to be done.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjUq0_hCDLQ"]Pioneer Avic-X930bt & Avic-Z130bt BYPASS - YouTube[/ame]
  • Beat-Sonic BH1 Stereo Installation Kit - 43.07 shipped- Beat-Sonic
- This kit is perfect. The fit is perfect no cutting required and it looks very OEM. As far as the wiring harness it also is perfect and exactly what is needed. The blue wire for the antenna even has a spare wire connected already so its super easy to hook up. The harness comes with male and female bullet connections on the end. I just ran to autozone and got the following: 16-14 Gauge male (85433), female (85432) connectors. I also grabbed some t clamps (85468) it made things a lot easier than trying to splice. I used this on the blue antenna wire and then again for the grounding of the parking brake wire, mute wire, and ground wire. Again the install was super super easy just clampping and connecting.
  • Metra 40-LX11- 14.99 shipped- Sonic Electronix
-This is exactly what people should get. It fits perfect and is exactly what the FRS needs. Nothing more nothing less. Again I used the T clamps to connect the blue wire to the harness.

Overall these are definietly the parts you will need to install your double din DVD/GPS headunit. The biggest pain in the ass was figuring out routing the wires. (I didnt want to break anything) I put the GPS antenna right behind the rear view mirror on the windshield. and just ran the wires along the headliner, same with the mic for the phone. Then just ran the wires down the A pillar on the passenger side and up through the glove box and to the radio area. Then for the USB/Aux cable i did not want to take apart my OEM console but i do still have the cable to use it. I ran the cable through the back and have the wire sitting in my glove box so if i want to use it i can just pug it in in my glove box and let it sit in there. Plus there is plenty of slack so if i want to pull it out to use anything on it i can. As far as tapping into the ground i saw a ground wire that was black with blue strip on it on the left side of the radio area in back bolted to the metal. The parking brake wire came with a tapping clamp and i was able to really easily tap that wire with no issues.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I may have left some stuff out but I will try to get pictures of the final result when its light out tomorrow.

Are there any recommendations on where to mount the GPS antenna for this?

I did mine right above the rear view mirror mount on the windshield. On that little strip of black. This way the silver from the magnetic pad is not shown from the front.

I was too lazy and just stuck my gps antenna in the glove box. I know they work better when stuck to the windshield but I havent lost signal yet and the gps accuracy seems to be unchanged. I might just keep it in the glove box from now on so I dont have to screw around with threading the stupid wire up to the rear view mirror.

Some units Amazon sells are refurbished so they are able to price them lower. Nothing wrong with that, but that is probably why it was so cheap.

Also, Pioneer will be releasing the information on all of their 2013 models at CES in a few months. Prices will be dropping on all of the 2012 models as stores start to get ready to stock the new models.

But I agree, anything under $600 is a steal for that radio. (less than dealer cost)

Thanks for this post. Did virtually the same thing. Re-pinned the mute wire to next to the red-wire, and then T-tapped it to the parking brake. T-tapped the parking brake to the black ground, which was grounded to the chassis.

Works like a charm.

I put mine on the windshield next to my GPS antenna, right behind the rear view. I didn't want to tamper with too much of the OEM equipment just in case I decide to re-sell my vehicle at some point, I can return everything to the OEM equipment.
