If Prologue was any indication of what's to come, Polyphony has miles to go to catch FM3. Sure FM has it's faults too but come on, no damage? Don't you incur damage when really racing? I thought so.
if you're taking wall damage while racing, ur not doing it right.

And if you played further into GT5P, you would have found out that, while there is no physical damage (I know, sad day for NASCAR and destruction derby lovers everywhere...gotta see the big crunches!), hitting a wall, HELL, tapping a wall at certain speeds, cutting corners, and running into other drivers immediately penalizes you to a slow speed (can't remember it) for a set amount of seconds. Its basically what running into a wall would do anyways, and has the same net effect. Most races in GT5 if you do hit a wall, or anything else that would penalize you, then you can kiss 1st place goodbye, because you won't catch back up.

But hell, I judge games based off a pre-release version and only playing it for 4 hours, all the time.

When it's released as a $40 version and not a demo on the PSN network, damn right I do.

But you have to remember that GT5: Prologue has more content then some other racing games and more cars. Just cut Polyphony Digital some slack.

I agree that there is loads more content and cars than most all other racing games. Hell, I will more than likely buy another ps3 just for GT5. Sure, if you're wrecking then you're doing something wrong but for it to be a simulator means that damage affects your car. If there's no damage, there's nothing going wrong with the car, thereby contradicting the "simulator" tag given. Really didn't mean to turn this into a war of words over GT.

That is true. Hopefully the damage in GT 5 will be good.

You want "real simulator" failure? FM3's rear-tire physics, in terms of drifting are way outta whack.

You slide, the tires pretty much immediately go to full hot and you lose all out traction in the rear. Feels like running around on ice.

I never liked that in the FM series.

Never said FM was perfect.

Just now read in the new Game Informer:

"While other game series' have included car damage for a while now, Gran Turismo always opted out in the past. That changes with GT 5. 'The Damage physics are going to be applied to things like a bent suspension arm, tires hitting the wheel wells of a car, deformation of the body affecting alignment, the loss of power to the engine,' Yamauchi says. 'We're actually still working on setting the sensitivity level of the damage. You can have it so if you have a single hit your car isn't going to be able to be driven anymore. It's a matter of adjustment."

-Game Informer, December 2009, issue 200, page 94. Gran Turismo 5, Teaching an old dog new tricks.

That, along with 950 cars, 20 track locations (including at least one touge, from what I've heard), hopefully a revamped photoshoot option, GT-TV (featuring, as it does now on GT5P, Option Video, Best Motoring, etc.) makes this game a sure bet. FM3 won't even come close. There's a reason this game is taking so long to come out, and its the same reason thats made the past GT's the #1 authority in console racing simulation.

And according to game informer, the Tesla Roadster will be a drivable car as well. Should be interesting.

There's still nowhere near the user generated content that FM offers. You can only continue adding cars and tracks for so long until it just becomes the same old game. I do like the inclusion of damage now. Like I said, I will more than likely buy my 3rd PS3 for GT5.

Being an Xbox360 owner, and my little brother getting Forza 3 for x-mas ... Im very disapointed with Forza. they start you off in an Audi R8 for the opening race, cool I thought. then I started to get control of the car - and it was way off. nothing felt right, the speed animation was way off, I felt like I was driving mach 3 while only going 90mph. When I slowed down for a corner the brakes felt way off for what I'd expect from an R8 and turning... felt like I was playing an arcade game TBH. I could only force myself to play for so long. the car felt fake. Fake does not make it as a simulator. Did anyone notice how the first set of cars, I picked Yaris, sound exactly the same as every other car when your at the line ready to launch? I thought my Yaris had a V8 in it until I started to race... It was the same sound the R8 had at the line that my Yaris had.

I bought GT5P and I don't even have a PS3, I went over to my friends house and played hours upon hours. I learned what a Lotus feels like on a track, I learned how to drive cars without traction control and assisted steering / braking. Distance felt right when driving into a turn, speed felt right for the cars size I drove, (Ford GT, the orange racing S2000 *cool interior* many others) and the physics felt right.

If I had to choose PS3 = Xbox360, I'd pick both for various titles (loving Dead Space on 360 atm DS2 soon!!). If I had to pick FM3 < GT5P Theres no way they can be titles competing for the same market. FM3 feels too fake and arcade like to be called a simulator. Its like taking the FT-86 and putting it up against a GT-R, no way in hell they can compete and be compared.

you might be surprised... if we could somehow measure "fun per $" the $22K competition model FT-86 might very well hold its own against the $90K average GT-R.
  • As far as the looks department... the Ft-86 concept has it all over that bloated whale GT-R.
  • The GT-R only comes with paddle shifters... no fun of a clutch!
  • Of course like any "super car" (or close to it)... you couldn't experience a fraction of the GT-Rs potential on the street... you'll be able to drive the FT-86 like you stole it.
  • Did I mention $22K vs. $90K
