The article of the FR-S driven alongside a 240Z was exactly as I imagined it would be. I haven't driven my 240Z since 2008 sadly, but I recall it being a very visceral experience, exhaust fumes in the cabin, very solid-feeling drivetrain (due in part to the solid diff bushings and the u-joint axles) and the out-of-this-world snarl of the triple Weber DCOE carbs (stock carbs sound nice, too, but the '73 had crappy emissions-restricted carbs, hence the Weber retrofit). The hood felt like it was a mile long, and it felt extremely light. Getting the car sideways was a real treat! However even a fully restored car could not come close to the refinement of the FR-S. Not that everyone would want it to, but for my purposes, I want a car like the Z that I can drive every day, and the FR-S/BRZ is exactly what the doctor ordered! Now I just need to get mine running on the stock engine, sell off my L28ET swap parts, sell the car, and have a decent down payment for a BRZ!

I am a 25 year Datsun S-30 Z enthusiast. My second car ever in 1989 was a beat up 240Z with 3 different paint colors.
![]() I now own a full race hot-rod 1973 240Z track car. ![]() My current daily driver is a 1997 E36 M3/4/5 ![]() I put money down on a BRZ Limited a month ago, and I cannot wait for my new sports car and occasional track toy. Subyota/Toyobaru has really hit the mark for guys with my taste in sports cars. I drove the BMW M3 to the dealer the day I arranged a test drive. When I pulled up the exhaust was pinging from my spirited drive to the dealer. The sales person standing outside knew exactly what I was there to test out. |
