Damn, that sucks. Last time I got pulled over for tint the cop just told me to remove it, and if he saw me again then he would give me a ticket.

All aftermarket intakes in CA need to be approved by California Air Resource Board (CARB). Companies will sell them without being approved. The company I purchased it from will be submitting the intake to be approved if they pass I can request for a CARB sticker to put on the intake. As for the exhaust...beats me?

i just recently moved to Texas from Missouri. As for Missouri i could run aftermarket. as long as it passed inspection. I just had to get Cadillac converters on my mustang that passed Jackson county inspection crap because of Texas kinda made me mad.

No. There is what's called a CARB exemption. CARB stands for California Air Resources Board. Any engine mod has to have a CARB stamp on it or it is illegal to use on the road in CA. But any mod will attract the attention of the cops as it is more likely you won't have CARB parts which means a ticket and more revenue.

I'm not sure, but I believe the companies that make these intakes/exhausts/etc have to pay for CARB certification. But I could be wrong.

The CARB thing is just for CA. I don't think any other state has anything like CARB certification so you should be fine with any cat-back you want. It's when you start replacing catalytic converters is when states start getting upset.

I see this a lot. Many people don't know that it's Catalytic and not Cadillac.

I really think its luck, driving style, and how the cop feels.

I run around in a s2k with a PWD:JDM Carbon Intake and J's Racing 70RS catback exhaust and I have never gotten any kind of attention or comments from the police regarding the mods for the past 4 years. (knock on wood)

As was mentioned engine modifications (or anything pertaining to) are only technically illegal if they can be proven to produce more carbon dioxide (hence the CARB sticker requirement) or exceed the 93db level. I don't run with CARB stickers on my modifications but my emissions have actually reduced from stock form according to the emissions tests we have to do every so many years...

Modding cars can be a PITA in CA... Thats why i stick with AEM and local car shops.. AEM is usually 50 state legal and theirs no worries when it comes to smog, which happens to be every two years unless buying a brand new car... If buying a brand new car... Smog test does not have to be until the fifth year after purchase...

All in all... Strict emissions, high taxes, and mostly sunny weather makes Cali the best place to live...
