OEM looking lug nuts? McGard?

How do you cross thread lug nuts if you remove them completely by hand and install them completely by hand?
I've never had issues with the OEM nuts, I always thread it fully by hand before even using a ratchet.

Living here in the Chicago area and having dedicated snow tires,I've removed my wheels at least twice per year for the past 5 years and have never had an isssue with my studs. I suspect the problems is that people overtighten the lugs. They are only supposed to be torqued 89 ft/lbs. I'd be willing to bet that most that snap are going way past that torque number.

That's good to know. I use 96lb because that's what we required

with the Porsche Club. I usually do tire changes myself, but occasionally have my wrench do something, and he insists that nothing goes out of his shop less than 100lb. I don't think that's necessary.
