Got my '17 battery replaced under warranty @ 29k miles last month -- turns out it had a bad cell.

I think in the winter the charging system behave the same as the 13-16'. If you check the voltage gauge (if you have the LCD screen), the voltage doesn't drop to 12.5V like it does in the summer. Below 7 or 8 degrees Celcius it stays around 14.5V all the time.

Just another data point. Yesterday, I went out in the garage to fire up my 2013 FR-S, with the OEM battery, after it had sat garaged unstarted for 11 days. It was about 50 degrees F in my garage.

Although it wasn't too happy about being waken up, it turned over the engine well enough to fire.
