@IA_FRS

For looks, it depends on your taste-- 245 wouldn't be too bad on an 8 inch wheel [imo].

see thread for Hankook RS3 in 245/40 on 17x8 RPF1: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10257

edit: and for comparison, see post 149 [in the same thread] for Michelin PSS 225/45/17 on 17x8 RPF1: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=149

note that different tire brands/models will run wider than others

Be aware that 225/45 is also taller overall than 245/40. Your gearing is consequently also taller as a result, so the car theoretically might feel a little less punchy in a straight line. 245/40 closest matches the rolling diameter of the stock 215/45s better.

205/55-16 834 revs/mi
225/50-16 834
215/45-17 844
225/40-17 831
245/40-17 841

Is it enough to be a concern? Dunno; probably not. I run a very light 225/50-16 setup, which are also taller than stock, and I feel there's far more to be gained by by the change to lightweight wheels and a good tire, than worrying about small changes in height/gearing.
