I hope your car is straightened up and will fly right now ......

As long as the cats wweren't damaged and it doesn't come back you'll be fine.

One thing- if you do get a P0420 in the future, the misfire killed the cats (it doesn't take much oil or gas in the cats to ruin them and it can take a while to come up) and it is covered under warranty. There's a different warranty on emissions parts than other parts of the car. Chances are the cats are fine, but FYI just in case. Just to be sure, delete the cats, go straight pipe and tune it LOL so warranties won't ever be an issue :-P

Valves were too tight. Apparently, only a few cars has had this issue. The service manager said he's never seen anything like that with new cars. They had to add buckets to the valves and adjust it accordingly, so they had to take the whole motor out to adjust the valves. It took about 2 weeks for them to fix it.

With that, Subaru decided to pay for my first payment and pay for my extended warranty since I had a bad experience with a brand new car. However, it was a pain due to customer service. Took them almost a week to reply to back to me, but that's another story.

That's why I was curious to see what happened to Clutch's car.

I wonder if the service manager meant that they had to change the thickness of the shims, under the buckets .....??

That sucks - sorry to hear your car had the exact same issue. Mine seems to be humming along nicely now, although I've escalated a case to Subaru of America and should hear back by Friday about an extended warranty. I'll continue to update the original post as things happen.

I also had to call Subaru of America. The process was painful because the senior rep that was handling my case went on vacation and nobody told me about that, so I had to wait about a week. I purchase the extended warranty, but they reimbursed that and paid for my first payment. Hopefully, they will do the same for you.

I ran across this thread *before* becoming a BRZ owner. Now I'm a BRZ tS owner, and today at 1286 miles, the CEL came on. Took it into the dealership, and they got back to me saying that the valves need to be adjusted and it'll take a while. Just great! This is pretty disappointing.

I'm so sorry. Hopefully they just fix it right the first time and in a reasonable timeframe.

Thanks. Took 15 days, so far so good, hope it stays that way. Got one month payment knocked off.

I would of asked for a new car, specifically one with the PP for all of their troubles.
