How do you feel about the balance of your car as it is now?

Very good question CSG Mike, I don't mind the balance as it is now to be honest, quite easy to drive and tossable. I have also been through many different alignment specs since i gone onto RCE Yellows. For example i always got low speed understeer (started with only -1 camber front / -1.5 rear, then progressed to -2.5 front / -1 rear with camber bolts top and bottom strut holes and Whiteline rear LCA, slight toe out front and slight toe in rear) but just recently i fitted the Velox Camber tops for more neg camber and now run neutral toe at front. Combined with Nankang AR1 the front end feels better, more mid corner grip but i struggled with more oversteer than usual the last time out at Phillip Island, a higher speed smooth flowing circuit. Could be the alignment, probably just needed a bit more neg camber in rear now that i got so much more front end. It was a hot day as well, ambient temp was 30deg celcius and i think the tyres didn't like it although the rears never really got that hot. Still learning about the tyres and new alignment.

I will know more what it is once i go to a low speed twisty track (Winton) on a much cooler day next week. And want to say thanks for taking the time to read and respond, i very much appreciate the advice.

Are you actually getting rotation (yaw), or just more turning than you're used to?

I would say rotation (yaw) because the rear was definitely looser at low speed 2nd gear mid corner entry, carried through with exit power oversteer, and also at higher speed 3rd and 4th gear corners the rear definitely felt lighter under part throttle resulting in a lot more steering corrections. I could probably put some of this down to the track temps and the Nankang AR1s, as it was my first time running them as well. I could have also just been carrying more speed because of the extra grippy r compound tyres plus i had -2 rear camber vs -3.5 or so front camber.

Hence i am keen to go testing again this week at a tighter twistier circuit on current setup, as the rear rotation should benefit this tighter twistier understeer inducing circuit. Hoping to pump out some nice laptimes

Do you ever need to reduce steering input to prevent rotation and/or can you throttlesteer and/or do you ever get to a state of countersteer while staying on power?

Yes to all of above When i was on Direzza Z2* and also when on Nankang AR1 R Specs. I found that being on the AR1 could have exacerbated the issue a touch due to have more front end grip.

Hi Dexter, yes i am a member of the VIC 86/BRZ Club as well as the impreza WRX Club VIC Most of my trackdays are done with the Impreza WRX Club and they run fantastic trackdays so i would highly recommend you check them out. The VIC 86/BRZ Club has run some motorkhanas and cruises and will soon be running trackdays i beleive so keep a lookout on their page too. Otherwise there is MSCA, PIARC etc.. Hope to see you at one of the trackdays!

If you do add any aero, I'm impressed by the Velox/Verus parts. Not the only choice, but might work really well for you (especially as your car is still a DD).

A quick update, i didn't get to do a track session last weekend as i have decided to run 17x9+35 RPF1s with 245/40/17 Advan A050 Medium Compound for next season so sold my old set of wheels and tyres. A very costly exercise but is the best possible combo i can run imo as i am moving up a class to play with the big boys.

And the suspension components i have chosen to run are from Whiteline due to a number of factors. The workshop i use is able to get me the Whiteline MaxG/AST Coilovers & Camber Plates at a very attractive price as they are becoming Whiteline distributors and its a marketting opportunity for them and also a benefit to me to have both the mechanical workshop and Whiteline behind my car. I was impressed with the coilover specs apart from the fact that it comes with 5kg Spring Rates which i suspect would be a tad too soft for the grip levels these tyres would bring at the circuit. However, i need to consider that 3 out of 4 circuits i attend are fairly bumpy plus the fact i use my car as a daily also. Swapping Springs is also a fairly straightforward exercise plus i have also asked for a set of Whiteline swaybars and would most likely run a larger front swaybar. I will also have an APR GTC200 wing and using E85 fuel to make up for a loss in straightline speed from the rear wing. Weight reduction will only be in the form of a passenger seat removal and i am looking into lightweight battery alternatives but it needs to be cold climate and street friendly.

Is anyone running the Velox rear diffuser without a front splitter? Would it work well with an APR rear wing?

Can't wait to get them all in for a test and tune during the off season

Let us know what you think of the Whiteline coilovers!

Keep in mind with the bars that going 2mm thicker front and rear has a much larger impact on front roll resistance than rear. So going from stock to 20mm front and 16mm will increase front roll resistance more than rear. Doesn't mean it won't work for you, but something to keep in mind. I suspect with those new tires it'll be an overall improvement.

Thanks very much Andrew, i will keep that in mind and come back with an update sooner rather than later With the start of the racing season 5 weeks away and factoring in Christmas / New Year shutdown there isn't much time to get through all i want to do!

subscribing for the review on the MaxG Coilovers.

Super clean build, something I'm looking to build towards. Cheers!
