17x9 5x100 - $570 each (first page on web search). That's dirt cheap for new forged wheels. Used even cheaper. http://www.customwheelsexpress.com/c...ms-p-1864.html |

Is it really dirt cheap? Imho ~$500-700 per wheel was normal price for forged wheels. In my book ~$150 for cheap cast, ~250 for good cast wheels. If you want around that price forged, why not these for example (even cheaper then those Motegi-s)? Or if money is no object (and $2.3K budget certainly sounds like that, NOT "some non expensive wheels options") one can throw even a bit more, and get some of best ones, eg. these.

Right - and for just another 1.5 pounds per wheel, you can spend half the money and get the same size RPF1, which no one will question the quality or value of. Given that the OP's question was for inexpensive wheels, overall cost will be much more of a factor than value is, necessarily. If the title was "What are some good forged wheel options?", then the Motegi/BBS wheels would be a far more reasonable option to suggest.

The current retail price of $570 is still solid (not average at all) for forged wheels from a reputable mfg. Non-expensive (or "expense" at all for that matter) and as you note, is a relative term that is also directly dependent on quality. So a 17' gravity cast wheel with certifications might be cheap for $145 ea, a 17" Flow formed wheel with certifications "cheap" for $175-$225, and a Forged wheel with certs for 17" $500-$600 is solid (BBS, Motegi or any other major brand.) Personally, I'd go the flow-formed route for a DD car as the pricing is relatively low and when they reach the point of failure they tend to bend (like a forged wheel) instead of cracking (like a gravity cast wheel.) Also I'd recommend trying to stick with a better known manufacturer as warranty and finishing (paint, deburr, etc.) tend to be better or of higher quality (there is that quality thing again) than buying at absolute lowest cost. Thus the reasoning behind whole list of wheels and links I originally posted (that also include wheels under the $280 you paid (which includes wheels of every construction type.) Just about any OZ or Sparco wheels http://www.sparco-wheels.com/wheels Motegi MR221 Traklites (Forged, cheap!) http://www.motegiracing.com/wheel/44...aklite-2-piece Konig Flow-formed lineup Wheels https://konigwheels.com/wheels/flow-formed-wheels/ Enkei Racing MAT Wheels (Most Advanced Technology (flow-formed, includes RPF-1)) http://enkei.com/product-category/wheels/racing/ WedsSport AMF wheels (Advanced Metal Forming (flow-formed lineup) http://www.wedswheelsna.com/wedssport-sa10r.html |

I like the Konig Ultraforms, really think they compliment the look of the FR-S... those are what I would want for my next set of wheels.

TIL Motegi makes forged Traklites, and you can totally customize the color for >$800/wheel
![]() Cast MR131 Traklites are currently $130/ea on Tirerack in 17x7, $160 for 18x8 OP isn't racing. And fyi RPF1's are flat faced in >8.5" widths which looks nice, and are bubble faced in <8" widths, someone has to point it out or you need to see them side by side to notice but once you do it can be a total turnoff.

Oh god the 10" width ones are so sexy, there's a BMW in the parking lot of my work that has them and the super flat face and the deep recessed lug holes look so good.

OMG reviving this ancient thread to say THANK YOU! This is not at all obvious from most photos on the web and explains why this wheel looks good in some photos and crappy in others.
