Ahhhh I see. In that case you are bang on. The oil does not self destruct at the recommended mileage. I always love that the manuals use the word "recommended" but some dealers will fight you if you go over by one mile/day and then have an issue.

Kidding aside, after a couple of oil changes at the dealer I have been using strictly Eneos. After reading the report from Blackstone on how minor the differences are when they look at their data and compare brands, I thought I'd send in a sample of used Eneos and then a sample of Castrol when I do my next oil change. I have no reason to think the results from my car will vary from the report, but I have never done a UOA and figured what the heck.

Honestly I've never replaced the oil in any of my cars, I just change the filter. Sheeple keep believing big oil's lies and keep buying more every 5000 miles.

All of mine have been done by miles and I have gone over by anywhere from 50 to 100 three or four times. My service departments sort of just said "meh it is only 100 miles we don't care about that little bit" and I have zero issues so I don't think 42 miles is the end of the world.

Yeah, mileage interval. I was completely kidding about the 42 miles mattering. 42 miles over is where it happened to be when I came from work yesterday. I put more worry into picking out what music to listen to than the 42 miles.

I inherited a 79 Thunderbird when I was a teenager. The oil pan gasket leaked enough so that the car was sort on a long constant oil change cycle.

Oh I know you were that is why you got the explosion Gif! If you had seemed to be even a little bit serious or concerned the response would have been radically different.

There is a fascination with changing fluids way too early or often on most car forums that has always made me chuckle. There are of course extremely valid reasons to do it sooner but very few people actually hit those conditions.

That describes most of the cars I drove between 1974 and 2003!

Only two of them. One was 11 years old and the other was 22 years old so various leaks were sort of expected.
The rest were an eclectic mix of Fords, Dodges, a VWs, a Datsun, and damn near every other make you can think of. They were all old and leaked from someplace.
I rebuilt that damned Dodge 440 about 6 times and even with all new gaskets and seals it leaked someplace each time.

Wait what's wrong with Castrol synthetic? It's the most expensive oil for brz you can get in a japan dealer. :X

Because that's the way it was?

There was no electronic ignition, fuel injection, synthetic oil, disc brakes, ABS, traction control or ECU. Tuning was done with a screw driver and a timing light. And if you had multiple carburetors, then God help you.
