My question is, if I open up the BIU to perform any sort of work, am I voiding any significant warranty? I have the standard 3 year warranty that Toyota Canada offers on a new vehicle and I'm not too sure if replacing the BIU would be covered by that warranty.
You can also rewire the "door" circuit so that it is powered by the light that illuminates the ignition. I think somebody once posted how to do that, but I can't find it. Just consult the wiring diagram. Also, make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything.
