Yep. That alone does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the whole thing.

Thanks guys for the replies. The oreilleys wick filter is pretty sketchy haha. Going to find a nice stick one. I guess since the 86 is coming out all the fr-s will be pretty cheap. Do you guys think the parts will be cross compatible between the two models? My budget is around 16-18k. Get a fr-s or wait?

The vast majority of the car is exactly the same. There are some minor changes to such things as the intake and exhaust that complicates but does not eliminate crossing parts.
The 86 coming out has not had any appreciable impact on the price of the older models. These are a middle to upper level deprecation vehicle anyway so the small facelift that was done really didn't change anything.
Prices vary significantly from region to region so your budget may or may not be good for your area. Take a look through Auto Trader or such for your area and see what they are asking for the cars at different levels of mileage, condition, etc. Keep in mind those are the prices that they are asking not necessary getting so you may be able to knock some down a bit. If you find they are high in your area and are prepared to travel a bit you can widen your search a bit. Deals are out there you just need to do some leg work.

Thanks a lot for all the advice. Just talked to the sales guy and someone
Bought it. Perhaps it's for the best. Now I'm on the hunt for a white one with a manual transmission! Stock! Lol.

You should easily be able to find an early model FR-S or BRZ for this much.
16k-18k is essentially trade in value dealers are giving for low mileage 15/16 year models.

LOL just got back from a test drive of the turbo FR-S. Let me begin I have never driven a fast car before and this thing was borderline TERRIFYING. Definitely had a stage 2 clutch. Very hard to learn the sweet spot on gear engagement. VERY loud and VERY fast. This thing hauled ass. I pulled up to the dealership and saw a stream of smoke coming from the hood. Popped the hood and it was coming from the turbo!

Called my friend and he said the turbo is shot and needs to be rebuilt / replaced. At that point I said screw this and glad I didn't buy it!

http://tlcmotors.com/2013-Scion-FRS/...7/Details.aspx

Check out this one! I'm definitely pretty serious about getting this. The only thing that scares me is the Perrin sticker and hoping he didn't do too much aftermarket stuff to the car. Hopefully just an exhaust! What do you guys think?

I would say that is a much safer bet that that slapdash turbo setup looked like.

Other than wheels/tires, battery and that Perrin sticker which you say indicates the Perrin exhaust, it looks unmolested from stock.

The white one looks to have a single-tip exhaust so not Perrin which is dual-tip. See Perrin exhaust below.

Also PTuning's turbo is bottom-mounted, not front-mounted. See PTuning turbo below.

Man this forum is awesome. Thanks guys for replying to my thread. Hopefully the car dealer will be open tomorrow. Going to look at the white one and hopefully it's mostly stock. Maybe the stickers are just for show or perhaps he was in some sort of car club. I'm not too worried about mods as long as they aren't too crazy. I am a Toyota technician after all! Although this is a Subaru engine haha. Not looking forward to doing a tune up. Pretty sure I gotta jack the engine up and plugs gotta be changed every 60k.

There are a couple of threads on how to do the plugs without having to jack up he engine. A few extensions and some careful hand placement and all is good.

White one looks good.

But I'd wanna be paying 14-15k for that year and mileage car.

Maybe I'm all wet, yet base this on a 2013 for sale somewhat near me, some 10 months ago, similar mileage. Private party sale, they were asking $14,500. I'd have bought it but hated it's color.
