This was the first thing I tried before posting. And the method I used in the posted video.

My way:

Warm up car
Start car with ebrake on and foot on brake pedal.
Brake 3x (hold at end)
Ebrake 3x (hold at end)
Brake 3x (lights come on)

I can replicate this procedure on any FRS/BRZ without issue.

You're doing it wrong then... or something is telling the ECU that you're not warmed up. Or the parking brake signal is not getting to the ECU. Or all 3.

@BDKane01 repeat the 3x + hold procedure going back and forth. Sometimes the car will not catch an input if it even slightly overlapped.

An "easy" way to do it is 3x brake + hold, 3x ebrake + hold, 3x brake + hold, 3x ebrake + hold, 3x brake + hold, 3x ebrake + hold, over and over until it works. Usually you don't need more than 1 repetition unless you're really messy, but it sounded like you were fully lifting on the brake pedal in the car.

Fun fact: this works on the LFA...

Unless someone beats me to it, I'll post a clip after I get home tonight. It's a snap once you get the rhythm.

I would love for this to be user error. LOVE. If it was my dumbass fault. That is a easy fix.

I don't think that is the case. I can make more videos of me trying all the methods.

Thanks for the info. I've been doing this. I'll keep trying.

That would be helpful. Though I don't think it's user error.

How do you know that's not the case? Looking at your video, you stop after the second sequence of brake pedal push and only depress it twice. To stop there and assume something is wrong with the car is also assuming your technique is 100% perfect and not flawed.

The pedal dance doesn't care how many times you enter it, as long as you enter the correct sequence within 30 seconds of the car starting up. If I were you, I'd just keep doing 3x 3x 3x 3x 3x until 30 seconds has elapsed before saying it's the car's fault.

The key part is that the ECU needs to see the following conditions:

warm engine/normal idle
stationary car
first 30 seconds of engine startup

At least this following sequence:
3x brake pedal
3x hand brake
2x brake pedal

All needs to be done in a sequence and any deviation of any of the conditions will not activate diagnostics mode.

After watching the video, I'm with mav and assume this can only be user error. It took me some time to figure it out for the first time as well, so don't worry. I learned easiest after I sat in the car and watched others do it. You don't need to be so deliberate and cautious about it. I see those who are used to this process literally spaz out and accomplish the task in just a few seconds. Don't pause in between the alternating of e-brake and pedal. Picture it like sheet music written in 4/3 time signature lol: 1-2-3-1-2-3... no rests and don't count how many you do. Just keep doing it till you see the lights.

On my 15 minute break at work after driving back from a hangar... I had the idea to unplug the negative terminal and replug.

The nannies went off and the lights went in one try after the reconnection. I have tried three times in a row and it works. So issue resolved.
