I wouldn't mess with anything under the hood unless I wasn't worried about my warranty, dealerships will use anything to weasel out of obligations.

Where did someone mention messing with anything under the hood? And if they had, how would doing so void the warranty?

You're gonna need to be specific, because so far you haven't made any sense.

What's not making sense, if you mess around with that mechanics of a car under factory warranty, pulling them apart and so on rather than have the dealer fix your issues they can try and con their way out of any warranty claims, is it fair no but does it happen yes.
If you don't care about warranty and are going to mod the car from the get go then carry on, if not then why tempt the many dodgy dealers.

Actually the dealer needs to be able to prove that you messing around led to the issue and therefore you are all good for messing around under there just you know don't take a pickaxe to you engine block and you'll be fine.

Nobody said anything about messing around with the mechanics of the car. Why are you talking about things nobody suggested? Are the drugs you're on showing you a different conversation from what everyone else is reading?

Maybe it's a "down under" thing ......

@FingerDiddle seems to be somewhere out in left field and

@crewchief seems to have disappeared ......

OR, maybe they just have a bad bunch of dealers down under there ....

Holy shit. @FingerDiddle might actually have a point.

I was reading up on it a bit, and it looks like the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says Australians have to have their regular maintenance done by a mechanic who holds a license. It doesn't necessarily have to be the dealer's mechanic. It could be an independent mechanic. But doing your own maintenance without a license looks like it might actually result in denial of warranty claims.

So changing out your own cabin air filter might cause you warranty problems. How idiotic is that?

I guess an apology is in order. So I apologize.

If you use ac in cold weather, it builds up mold. Even worse if weather fluctuates. I clean interior of vents with long cotton qtip with rubbing alcohol. Aka the alcohol you use to wipe CPU paste. Smell is gone on my old pickup. FRS picks up smells here and there so I park in garage, spray interior with disinfectant spray they use in hospitals some times, let it dry and air out, then overdo it with febreze. This includes spraying disinfectant into vents. I don't spray febreze into it.

You can try that. Also, new cars tend to smell oddly.

Crewchief never answered my question whether it was a manual or automatic, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here, assume it's a manual and say that I suspect what he's smelling is not mold or stuff burning in the A/C system or any of that, but just plain old burning clutch stink from the clutch breaking in. It'll stink like that for many thousands of miles, and the way it comes up through the car makes it seem like it's coming from the A/C system.

Now he'll probably return and say it's an automatic and destroy that theory, but until he does that's my guess.

You still can, I'll just reply with

"Communist Kalifornia still lets you work on your own car without fear of tossing out one's own automotive warranty, unlike that prison state Australia!"

car is auto ..seen early threads of the same problem on the 86 no one seems to have an answer...its not mould... its a burning smell like tar for about 3 seconds then goes ....doesn't happen all the time but...driver reports... makes the driver light headed...gives a headache....seems to me like leaking engine coolant ...thought there would be a fix seems common problem with 86...
